hey guys, well i need some help here...

the basic story is... me and the rest of the maltesers on this forum had decided to go overland to sicily / mid-italy.... BUT my trip is going by far much further.... (might have to do with a tv proggy too ;) ) and basically i need to know what load out you guys would suggest me to carry on this trip....

the trip's check points are...

Malta > Italy > England > Romania > Malta (however other countries will be visited, our only chance to get to see europe ;) )

we're going to be 2, max. 4 in the land rover (photographer might be loaded up in the back and a friend of ours thats boarding from Romania)

basically by then my land rover should have the light rail, so i was thinking of takin that off and rigging a roof rack and put the floods on the edge of it... as a load out i was gonna take

spare wheel
around 4 sort of sand tracks (but for rocks)
9 jerry cans (3 diesel, 3 petrol, 3 water - colour coded jerry cans)
PMR radios
first aid kit
bivy tent (or however u spell it)
roll mat
sleeping bag
mag lite
shovel
GPS
compass
maps (hope we'll find)
takin that sort of small burner to cook on, a triange or wotever they call it
a gas lamp to see durin the dark
water purification tablets

--- ADDED STUFF ---

zippo
insect repelant

---------------------

thats the list that i can remember so far... if i remember anythin else i'll post more....

as luxury (if we see we can afford it) we thinking bout a small 1kva generator and a small car fridge...

food wise we were thinking of takin MRE's with us (as some countries get pretty expensive to eat in).

was thinking bout some spares for the landy as i'm pretty afraid that we'll be set back by some days with some break down.

at the moment we got some sponsors interested, if u know anyone that will be interested please let me know too as i'm expecting the bill to run close to the £1k on diesel only.

will have website up soon and if all goes as planned tv coverage for the sponsors plus sponsorship stickers on landy :)

also whilst up in england i'll let you guys know when and where i'll be and from where i'll be driving ;) would love to meet up with you guys :D

as always... any malteser is welcome to join in, we all friends and i dont mind people joining me :)

any help is greatly appriciated

Olo is it a 127 you're driving or your 90??!?? :D

You're trying to get an awful lot of stuff in that and remember that you cannot get more than 2 people at one time in it - that's you and a passenger.

A roof-rack is always a very good idea especially on such a long trip.

Like I said I planned a trip myself but am getting a little confused now as to what I will really do next year. Probably I'll stick to my plan of Home > Italy > Switzerland > France > Belgium > Switzerland > Italy > Home. I always wished to attend for the Belgium Nationals and I thought of doing it next year!!

If the time you plan is ok for me I might join up part of the way!!

about the passengers... permit has been... erm.... temporarily modified :D

if we crash... poor them but anyway... they want to film it not me!

as regards to load.... well.... i reduced alot of stuff, such as generator replaced by an inverter, jerry cans well i'm aiming for 2, at max. 4 (want 2 diesel and 2 water, otherwise 1 of each).

what i'm worried about is the security.... we were thinking of me sleeping like from 8 till 12 and the other guy sleeps from 12 till 8 and we got guards on watch, otherwise driving and the other sleeps in passenger seat

Security is no issue in camping sites in Europe, and you'd better plan around such places rather than in the middle of nowhere especially for a first time. :wink2:

As to 'extra' passengers, you'll end up in loads of trouble if there's an accident and apart from that rules are more rigid in Europe than they are here, so if the legal limit is Driver + passenger then you'd better stick to it or you'll end up spending the mentioned 1000 quid on fines :smallprin rather than on diesel!!!!!!!!!!!!

Ed... mind I pay you and you bring me over a keg of Courage from the UK? Call it your ' treasure ' or something. But it will self destruct if you open it. ;)

Good luck for your trip and great idea. Somewere I had seen a Landy owner who equipped his landy with a bluetooth enabled webcam... stuck on the front ( facing the road ) and at specific intervals it sent a snapshot.. to his mobile... GPRS.. and onto his website/host. Will dig that out.

Prosit guys!

That might get kinda expensive!! Depending on the interval and the size of the pics :D
If there are sponsors it's an awesome idea :D

trip updates... still checking between two routes...

its either this one...

Malta
Italy
Switzerland
France
UK
France
Belgium
Netherlands
Germany
Austria
Hungary
Romania
[back track to austria]
Italy
Malta

or else....

Malta
Italy
Switzerland
France
UK
France
Spain
Portugal
[back track till france]
belgium
netherlands
germany
austria
italy
malta

still undecided, old plan changed due to safety reasons. still seein how safe it is to follow either of these 2 routes and how viable it is
