Just wondering if anyone else has experienced problems obtaining a Green Card and at what cost if any.

Two insurance companies ago (NU) I obtained my Green Card for the whole of Europe including Morocco for approx £45 a time. Last insurance company (AXA) which I changed from earlier this year supplied a Green Card for everywhere with only Iraq and Algeria crossed out at no extra cost. Current insurance company (ADMIRAL) will supply a Green Card for Europe only (£17) but not for Morocco.

How does this work? I could understand if political climates dictated a higher premium or an overall non issue of Green Cards but the other two vehicles I'm travelling with have been issued Cards at £30 and £65.

Over £200 difference was the reason I changed companies before anyone says I should have stayed with the last one!

AJ,

Not sure about English companies but I am with Zurich insurance (they also have UK office I think). Over here they issue a 3 year motor insurance policy cert together with a 3 year green card, the only country I had to ask to have put on the card was for the Ukraine, ok Iraq is not on either but no plans for a visit to Iraq in the next 3 years ;)

Make sure when you get the green card that the full names of all the people that will be driving the Landy are on the card!

Also and this is very important you must make sure that you have a temporary import certificate, when we were entering the country we first had the passport stamped then you import the car, ask for 6 months! this is the max time you can import the car, but will allow you to extra time if you break down or someone needs to stay longer for what ever reason.

you must show the two peices of paper when you leave, one is white one is green, you get to keep the white copy (keep it).

While driving around the country you will see quite a few police check points, make sure you slow down and stop, they have "stingers" they can pull out into your path if you look like your not going to stop.

I didnt have my drivers license checked once they were only interested in the vehicle documents and our passports, take a good few copies of your documents as they offten like to keep the copy you give to them (saves them writing all the details down.

Over all the police are very nice and will help in anyway they can (for tourists) for the locals you will see quite a few out in the open bribes take place!

I have another thread that I will post more details on when I get time.

Astbury,

Very many thanks for the reply and detailed information. The trip next month will be our fourth to Morocco, the last being April just gone so pretty much aware of routines and what to look out for.

It is because of the ease at which we obtained the Green Card in the past with other insurance companies that prompted my thread about the difficulty in obtaining one this time.

Done both Tangier and Cueta crossings before and I'm disappointed that we have never considered the Malaga to Melilla crossing for a change. I'll have to discuss it with the other two crews we're travelling down with.

Looking forward to reading the rest of reports.

Cheers.
