Hi all,
I am about to take delivery of a '90 ExMOD 110 V8. I have been told these are restricted, if so how easy are they to un restrict?
Cheers
Rich
According to Les Roberts in this month's LRM, it was only the Stage One V8 that was restricted - as he knows much more about the technical side of Land Rovers than I do, I bow to his superior knowledge. If your vehicle is one of the late eighties batch of mainly soft tops, I am pretty sure that these were not restricted. The 110 Station Wagons used by EOD and Mountain Rescue were definitely not, and I believe the RAF (mainly UKMAMS) SW fleet was also unrestricted. Same goes for NI Spec armoured. But don't take my word for it as I'm no mechanic.

A mate has recently purchased an ex-military V8 (late 80s ragtop) and it was restricted. I was under the impression that it was the norm on ex-military V8s.
The restriction consists of a plate in the manifold under the carb on each side. It is pressed into place and the easiest way to remove it is to cut it out with a hole saw. To do this it is safer to remove the manifold to prevent swarf entering the cylinder heads. Once this has been doone the carbs will need rebalancing and setting up. If you're not competent at tuning etc, it may pay to have someone else do this for you.

My 1990 RAF 110 V8 had the restricters, if you look on the plate on the side of the seatbox it will say something like "Truck Utility Medium Rover 4X4 V8 90 BHP", I think a normal 3.5 with carbs is about 134 BHP.
I cut mine out with a holesaw but I have been told since that if you give them a good hard whack with a chisel they will pop out.
Graham & Mike,
Any details of units with which these vehicles served, and can you please post the Contract details from the plates?
Thanks,
Bob

Chassis no. SALLDHAV7FA420559
Contract no. LV2A/004
I got the printout from the EMLRA which shows the colour as Green disrup pat IRR. The dealer I bought it off painted it plain green and fitted a hardtop and I put the yellow stripes on to make it look a bit different.
The history shows it as having served with 2620 County of Norfolk R aux AF from 31/1/91 to 11/8/98, any idea what they would have used it for ?
The guy I bought it off said it was full of leaflets as if it had been used for displays or recruitment.

Only repeating what Graham has already posted, hope it's of some help Bob. I don't know much about the history of mine but at some time it may have seen service in the Gulf as everything was sprayed sand colour including the dash which has since been painted over with black paint that is now peeling off.
Much more fun without restrictors!
Tony.
