bubbly noise!

Hi all. Just noticed a new noise on my 300tdi disco. I happened to be driving with no music and between 2750 and 3000 rpm, I noticed a noise which I can only describe as bubbly / poppy. It happens within these revs regardless of which gear I am in and sounds to be from the bulkhead end of the engine when sitting in the truck. I tried putting music on again and it worked but the fact that the noise was still there even though I couldn't hear it was still on my mind! Can anyone hazard a guess what I should perhaps look at? there seems to be no loss of performance.

Strange but true, the noise has gone so whatever made the noise has either mended itself or fallen off.

prob not!! I was only snoring cuz I had half fallen out of bed! and me 'ed was lower than me toes. Twas a Abbot ale induced thing!!
