View Full Version : Before I order my Discovery 3 (LR3).

Hi,
I am just about to order my Discovery 3 (TDV6 HSE) and I have a few questions.
1) Alarm. Has anyone installed a Clifford car alarm over the top of the factory fitted one? I currently have a Clifford on my current car and I would like to keep the remote start & BlackJax features.
2) TFT Screens. Has anyone managed to fit a decent size TFT screen in the rear of the driver & passenger headrests? The Disco 3 headrests are not very wide and I have been unable to find a screen that looks even close to fitting.
3) Spare inputs on the drivers Sat Nav display. I was thinking of fitting a reversing camera (first time I have ever had a car that is this big) and want to know if there is a spare input available on this screen?
I would appreciate any help or advice you can give me.
Cheers
Martin
Martin,
With all the money you're spending on the new vehicle, why not spend a little more for the proffessionals to sort out your extras? Maybe the dealer will do it for you!

I think the LR3 comes with a rear sensor as standard, for reversing, though not sure how good it is. Have seen something mentioned about the camera option but not sure if it was something to be supplied by land Rover in the future or if it was an aftermarket product.
Somewhere on here someone posted a link to a site with Screens on it.. will see if I can find it for you.
Sorry, don't have any info on the alarm system.

Hi AJ,
I fully intend on having my installer do all of the work. The thought of me with wire cutters inside the new Disco is far too scary to imagine! The dealer uses a different Alarm/ICE installer to me and they 'don’t do' Clifford.
I guess I am just looking for the reassurance that someone else has been there with a Clifford alarm and that it worked out OK.
As for the headrest TFT screens, I was looking for a product recommendation. My installer has a few ideas already, but I want the best solution for me. I am happy to put in the 'leg work', especially if I can find the right screens.
I have tried www.landrovertechinfo.com (http://www.landrovertechinfo.com/) but I could not find an answer to the Sat Nav display input. I guess I will have to wait and see.
Cheers

Hi Lighting90,
The Discovery 3 does have some form of reversing sensor, but I was thinking about a camera. I have never had a vehicle this big before and I am a little worried about reverse parking/etc. It won't be the end of the world if I can't get one fitted.
As for the TFT screen, I am unsure if exactly what I'm looking for actually exists! As the headrest is taller than it is wider (portrait?), I was looking for a screen that could 'pop-out' and twist through 90 degrees to work in the normal 16:9 wide screen format and then twist back and pop back in to stow.
I will check out your link in a bit - Ta..

The new Range Rovers have that camera thing, no idea if it is also available for the Disco III though.

Go to www.tgincar.co.uk for the screens and DVD player. I got 2 screens and a multi-region DVD player for £300. Probably even cheaper now. Quality is superb and they are a doddle to fit. Not sure if you will get a 7-inch screen in the LR3 though - they look too narrow. Also, my DVD player fits underneath the centre console storage box and that gap appears to be filled in the new Disco.
Oh, and don't forget to post pictures and opinions when you get it - don't think I've seen any posters' LR3s on here yet, only marketing photos.

shanno_2k / nobbyclark - Thanks for the links - I'll add them to my ever increasing list of places to check out.
Steel - Missed that one so I will ask my dealer about it - Cheers
Hubber - I need it for the first week in May. Apparently I should be OK, as long as I order it within the next week or so.
I really appreciate the help all of you have given me so far.
