Discovery 1 1998,

Having a problem with the alarm flatening the battery every time I lock the car.
If I leave the car unlocked everything is ok but within an hour of locking it the alarm will sound and the battery will be flat.

Hi Andy. Welcome to the forum.:)

I don't know of any problems.

Is it a genuine alarm?
What year/ model is the disco?

Discovery 1 1998,

Apologies if I'm stating the obvious, but have you checked out the battery?
Being cold at the moment, it'll add to the strain.
Some have a little coloured indicator built in to the top to show three statuses: good/bad (charge it)/ugly !

I guess one quick way to check would be to leave a single interior light on, in the unlocked vehicle for an hour, or to put a multimeter in series with one side of the battery connector, and test for current draw before/after arming the alarm.

Good point, checking the battery seams a good place to start.
Have you tried locking by key without the alarm set?
It would rule out the central locking system!

Not sure why the battary back up would affect it. (does it have one fitted?)

To test the central locking how about leaving a window open and pushing a button down.
