Ok so we got the second 'puter for sammy now, but have come across a small problem. The cheap modem thingy supplied by bt broadband isn't compatible with the "normal" router so i've been told, so have opted for a wireless one instead.

Problem is i cannot log into my browser to configure the router through either computer and cannot figure out why, am trying to use a linksys wireless - G 2.4ghz to connect to btbroadband with both the HP pavillion 423 and a dell dimension 3000 anyone any ideas?

Does the router allow for a direct network cable connection, sometimes you need to use this rather than the wireless part to gain access

Followed all the instructions to the letter for the installation of the bloody thing, it's when it comes to configuring it that it falls apart, can't connect to my isp or even open my browser to follow the rest of the configuration procedure.

Try opening your browser and type the following into the address bar 192.168.1.0 or 192.168.1.1 Dont forget the . these are the IP address's normally used by the routers. This will allow you to access them.

What operating system are you using? If it's XP you probably need to set up a new network. Go to my computer, on the left you will se my network places click this then add a new network place click this and follow the instructions.

or 192.168.1.2 or 192.168.2.1

Wish they would keep it as standard in default

is it a linksys wag54g?

firstly if it is, i pity you, i have one and its the biggest steaming pile of poo ever. i just want a refund on mine, but i've persevered with it for awhile so they'd probbaly just send me another one...noooooo. do a search on the internet for reviews of this piece of crap, it is widely..ahem..loved.

anyway, your login in internet explorer should be http://192.168.1.1,as stated, unless for some reason it has changed. otherwise i'd suggest pushing the reset bit on the back of the router. you might be able to flash it from windows, if you get the download from linksys. i've flashed mine couple of times to update the firmware, but cant immediately remember how to do it. has been a while since i did it as every new version of firmware is worse then the last.
