If you can't get the connection to split directly at one computer, have the connection go through one of the computers, and then network the other one to that first computer and set it to use the first computer as the gateway to the net.
Whereabouts in London are you Bhod?
Ah, little too far west for me to be able to pop round!
Np's fella, i'll get it sorted once i sit down and get my head round it, just wondered what differnt set-ups people ould advise. Think step one is to get rid of the poxy cheapo adsl thingy from BT.
I don't think you'd go far wrong with this:

What router modem are you using, have you used the floppy disk from one pc to the other setting up small network, so each pc sees each other.
Cheers Ribby, hopefully think i got it sorted now, elected to get a belkin modem/router and after one or two occasional problems it seems to running fine now.

My personal point of view is if you are using a USB ADSL modem and Internet Connection Sharing, dump it and get a NAT Router and then just network it all... Makes life a lot more simple. All I need to do here is drop another machine on the network and they're automatically on the network and broadband.
Some friends of mine (Fellow Drivers) come round with their computers to play battle games and while they're here they update their machines on the BB :)

Microsoft's Internet Connection Sharing (ICS) whizzy script built into XP doesn't always work. I had so many problems trying to get two XP machines to share a connection that I looked up quite a few techie fora and everyone was saying it's pot luck whether ICS works or not.
I've given up with trying to get my two machines to share, even though they network perfectly in every other way. When funds allow I'm buying a wireless DSL modem/router and wireless cards, which will also make my long-suffering better half happy because it'll do away with the wire running down the stairs to the phone point (can you tell I'm not into DIY!).
Forget the Microsoft software and go for the modem/router.

Defiantely, modem/router is the way to go and set up a proper network from there.

I have broadband supplied by BT (and paid for by my work - whoohoo!) and I have a wireless router. You can also plug network cables in if a PC doesn't have wireless, and everything we've plugged in has worked.
(If you can get your hands on one, go for it - being free of cabes and able to sit anywhere in the house is a lif-changing experience.)
Eventually elected to go for the Belkin adsl modem with built in wireless g router. Had one or two connection issues to start off with, changed browsers from the btyahoo/ie one to maxthon, running a damn site better and no loss of connection now.

The only thing that puts me off wireless is security issues. Because unless you actually know how to set up a secure network anyone sitting outside your house can access it.
