Does anyone know the legal status of the lane that crosses Lathkill Dale in a ford just below Over Haddon in the Peak District, my map sez YES but the residents (presumably) have put up a sign saying NO unless my map is marked wrongly. I was walking around there a couple of weeks ago and it looks an interesting drive - if it's legal of course :)

Tim,
I've done that lane from both ends in the last few months.
I did notice the very unofficial looking sign at the Over Haddon end towards the bottom of the hill but saw no reason to obey it.
Coming from the Conksbury end you pass through the middle of the farm yard but there's no signs up there, official or otherwise.
There were people working in the yard but no one challenged me.

Hey, if you've got a map that says it's ok and the police bother you, just show them the map and say you thought it was ok.

Tim I put the info on the GLASS forum these are the replies so far;
I have driven this lane several times, most recently about 18 months
ago. I
also walk in this area occasionally.
Three points of interest:
* Travelling north, through the yard of Meadow Place Grange the route
bears half right across a grassy field with no evidence of the track.
I've
exchanged the time of day with the people here without any agro.
* There is rarely any water in the ford.
* It's a real honey pot for tramplers so best avoided bank holidays
and
Sundays.
And this one;
