Very nice job Pete, very nice indeed, well done :)
Interesting sequence. What's the story behing the seats then?
Do you travel with the bed in place and gear stashed under it?
What is the sort of line along the top of the seat box each side as it isn't in the electrical photo?

We once had 2 double bench seats, but as with life, things needed changing(kids growing fast),so i put a post in the wanted section of the forum, wanted 2 folding seats, and as luck my have it My matey friend Geobloke had just taken 2 of his out and gave them to Moses (forum member) who the took the decision i would have more use for them and in turn gave them to me
I think thats how it went

Not too sure how its gonna work, only finished it today, but yea summat like that.

I made up 2 filler peices for either side,so when the bed base is in place, everything is flush, the silverline is aliangle from B n Q (see pic)
I anyone wants photos, just ask . :)

Interesting Pete....nice work....I like what you have done....food for thought!
Does the 3 piece sleeping base fit between the arches when not set up?
What thickness ply did you use..9mm?
Is it padded? just wondered what its like to sleep on?
Would be interested to see any more pics as I'd like to do something to my 110 SW
Either I haven't the time, or the balls to set to it...not sure which....probably a combo.
If you work out how to incorporate a small fridge and hob and water + keep seating for 3 passengers...???.......

Thinking the same, tho may not go as far as hot and cold
Ive just got hold of a fridge off ebay,so that will be going in along with the cooker on a roll out shelf,so you can stand at the back of the landy and make a brew, tho that idea is still in the pipe line......got work buddys on the case ;)

Fantastic thread! Loads of ideas and really well done too. My 90`s rear is just wasted space atm.. and easily gets cluttered when i get my stuff in for the camping weekends. The boarding up across the wheel arces is a good idea to keep the stuff tucked underneath.. whilst leaving the top clear.
I dont wish to ask the obvious, but does the landy get cosier with the carpeting?
Carpets make a HUGE difference. Before my landy was a little utulitarian, now I prefer driving it to work over my Mercs (hard to believe but true). It helps having a little poished aluminium bits thrown in the equation as well.
Next stop, leather (or maybe suede);)

Storm,
They are extremely utilitarian and modified by their owners for practical use and comfort.
I reckon yours is going to become the first defender pimpmobile. Stick to yer Mercs if you like the flash stuff.
AJ
Keep the pictures coming ,Pete.
Chorus: we're not jealous are we.
The carpet on the roof is for when you roll it, right?
If you had used green carpet it would have given the two friesians you keep in the front somewhere to graze.
I've seen those cargo nets around but terribly expensive for somethng that's mostly thin air. Anyone know a cheap alternative that doesn't look like garden netting?
immmmmm very nice and neat job Pete, keep it up mate.
cheers

ajcoll I know you are not having a go at me but let me try to explain why I'm doing what I'm doing. Mine didn't have any thing on the floor when I got it (not even the rubber mats I had fitted at the dealer on delivery. I intend on adding a little luxury (sound proofing) to it, but still intend on using it off road (mainly for wild bore hunting). I guess I'm getting soft in my old age.:D

Not having a go Storm but certainly a little dig. :D
Although I've got aftermarket soundproofing I draw the line at anything other than rubber mats. Carpets would be too much hassle to dry out!!
If you get the urge to line your 110 with tiger skins let us know about it in the agony section.:D
Funny you should mention wild boar. Got chased by half a dozen yesterday. There was however, an electrified fence between us. Escot Estate if anyone is interested and only £2 a head this time of year.

LOL, you guys get all the good soft places to offroad. All we get is desert and other dry/ rocky stuff (hence why I opted for carpets), maybe once every year we'll get 20 days of non stop rain and then it's too risky to offroad since if you get stuck you have about 2 minutes before some people come by and help themself at gunpoint to your belongings and your vehicle, and anything else they wish to add to their trophy room/house.
As far as tigerskins are concerned,.... let me get back to you on that one:D
Easy:)

Storm,
I was fortunate to see a mother Tiger and her cub in the Ranthambore Tiger Park accross the border. Fantastic.
So if you are considering tiger skins, I do hope they are the tacky man made type. In fact you could tuse that cover from your bed.:D

Ok moving on from the inside,to the outside, first pic is of 4 rectangular driving lamps bolted to the front of my 90roof rack, the lamps are wired into pairs and are switchable,ie,i can have them all on at once,or,i can just have the middle ones on,or just the out side ones on  All are wired thru relays and additional fuses,
Second and third pics,
Rear work lamps, wired in the same way as the rack lamps,ie as a pair, and switchable at the dash, and, switchable at the back of each lamp.
And fourth pic,
New(to me)wolf wheels,hmmmm nice ;)

nice. looking well cumfy.
just a thought though , did you do anything for ventilation? might get stuffy sleeping in there. also the ciggie lighters , do they work? might be an idea to disable the male bit of the lighter , just in case eh?
still , looking really nice , makes me wish i had an extra 20 inches on mine.
Are the rear worklights the ordinary units you see around at 16 quid or something different. Truck looks awesome in that colour and detail. You can go anywhere in that.

Have you slept in the back of it yet in the rain? I took mine S3 round Norway where it appears to rain most of the time and got quite damp in the back.
Looks a lot more professional than mine (slats between the benches and a double mattress thrown on top) :)

I am planning on insulating the roof of my 90, and also trying to fit a collapsable bed to go along the passenger side, don't know how successful I'll be at making a collapsable bed. I don't even know if It's going to be long eneough I have transported my winch bumper, by folding down the passenger seat it fitted just, so might need to sleep in the fetal position:D.

here's my sleeping in the lwb solution:
I have 2 bench seats on eather side in the back of mine
2 x 18mm ply 4'9 x 3' boards fits nicely across the seats
Gear/junk goes under boards - most needed stuff goes towards the rear door for easy access if reqd :-)
a dbl inflatable roll mat (£40) from Outdoor world - inflates to bout 1.5 inches inflated so not a clumsey as an air bed/matrass
2x singles appox £15 ea will do just as good, but I wanted the dbl as it folds over and fits down 1 side of the lany hen not in use :-)
The boards fit in on the floor space between the seats when not in use
Comfy and pracical me thinks

10th Jul 2008, 14:03
Tom, the only major difference between mine and yours is I bought a big piece of 10cm thick foam to cover the boards. Slept in it the first time on the hunt and never been so comfy + warm in all my life camping :)
The foam rolls up tidy and sits behind the bulkhead in line with the top of my rrc seats. So doesn't get in the way and gives me lots usable space.. Can now just roll it out and sleep wherever :)
