I am probably gona realise what a thickitt I am when someone answers this, but here goes.
I have just swapped a 15" CRT for a nice new 17" LCD, and on the whole its fandabby bloddy dozy, but i swaped so that i would be able to open pickies up and not have to manually go large, best way to explain is a web page still shows the same amount of info as before only a lot bigger, i thought i would now see more of the page at the old size?
Is it somat to do with the resolution? currently running in 800x600 i think

Now running macs, I don't profess to be a windows expert but you will find that, unlike CRT's, LCD displays are manufactured to have a native resolution at which they perform their best. For just about all LCD monitors of 15" and above, the native resolution is at least 1024 x 768 and may be 1280 x (whatever it is, I can't remember)

If you have kept your resolution at 800 x 600 then you will only see the same amount of information but larger (and probably a bit blurry as it won't be the displays native resolution!).

You need to go into settings and alter the display resolution until you get the best results for your monitor.

As far as my knowledge goes,... all that is written above is all there is to it.

I'd have reccomended 1024 x 768 resolution, but some say that the flat-screens are better at working in the higher res than the lower ones. I run both my machines at 1024 x 768 and even in games. TA at that res is great :)

Too low.

The native for a 17 SHOULD be 1280x1024, altho some cheaper screens will be 1024x768.

This is the main reason i dont use a TFt deaktop screen, because the res's are so dam low!!! I run my laptop screen at its native 2048x1536 and its only a 15" screen....pin sharp, best TFT screen in the world :D

yea always check the specs of a TFT. the TFT should mention its native res. TRY to always run your pc with that res. what the TFT does is... sort of emulates your other res. to its native res. theirfore since there is this procedure it will "lag" a bit (a.k.a. Ghosting).

if possible see if your card supports DVI out (its usually a connector on your video card right next to your VGA out, it looks slightly longer and its pins are square-ish). and check if the TFT supports it. you will notice much sharper and neater imaging, especially in movies or pics.

ghosting can never be eliminated, unlike CRT's that run at 0ms lag, the best TFT's have done so far is 9ms and 12ms lag. thats what starts kicking the price up mainly as you might notice cheap screens running at around 25ms and 30 ms lag.

That's a very high res' for such a small screen. What work do you do on it? Everyday office and internet stuff must be hellish.......everything must look so tiny!

What make of laptop is that you have then?

The resolution of the high end Apple 30" HD cinema display is 'only' 2560 x 1600. I can't imagine why you would possibly need such a high res on such a tiny screen or what use it would be.

Its an NEC Versa P700 - tis the only one with such a screen, which is why i got it cos its really awesome.

I use it for graphics, photo editing etc etc. Hence a pin sharp high res is so nessecary. When surfing and browsing etc. its not too bad, i'm used to it so dont havea problem and i have my icons etc set to large :)

Yeah its not bad, i find that even with the spec it is (2.2 P4-M, 768mb DDR, 80GB hdd etc.) its getting a bit slow for my work so i am considering replacing it, but i know the screen is unrivaled by anything out there :(
