i've got some ideas. maybe we can go to ballut blocks road near the valley and drive to burmarrad - then to bidnija and drive till zebbiegh on roads near the valley - then drive to golden bay/mellieha and drink beer:D i ve got a 12volt fridge now for valentines so I can offer cold beer hahaha, and make a bbq.

I think it would be better if we meet Sunday morning or afternoon so that we can enjoy the countryside:p

Im up for a day out... could i suggest a sunday? I`ve got to get my offroading `kit` sorted though as i`ve not taken that seriously yet. I need tow-point at the back and a decent rope. For the front... its either the lashing eyes or (any suggetion?)

Please, lets not make it an insane hour to meet... say 10? And after a decent drive... a grill, beer and a good chat.

If we are a `big` group... i`d suggest we get some info out in a brief chat at the meeting place. We should check to have a PMR radio per vehicle, we check each vehicle`s limitations ( just to check... not to worry anyone) and we have a list of mobile numbers spread round the participants ( just in case PMR range is lost).

But yea... lets get the leader of the tribe busy on organising another day out. If this week is a bit short notice... we could leave it for the next, as you wish.

emmmm there is no need of tow points (but like you I'm fixing mine;) ). It's only mild offroad so that everybody could take part.....just to enjoy our countryside and meet you guys. So we all agree to meet on a Sunday morning. It is better if we will make an awning just in case there would be some rain showers.
How can I contact Dborg? Is there any email? so that we could make a date.:D

Or else post a suggestion yourself. No one is actualy in charge officially, like I said before we are just a group of friends who are a bit nits about our vehicles and like to share eahother's company.

Usually we post and get a consensus online, hehehe, simple..... ;)

This is a method which I found recently, no this forum I guess. I am planning to try it soon. So far I got the contacts of a supplier who can provide Methanol at 45c per litre.

BIODIESEL

Every batch of used oil is different so you need to work out how much caustic soda solution to add to start the reaction.

You first make a small amount in a jam jar.

The quantities are approximately 20 milliliters Methanol to 100 milliliters Vegetable Oil plus some Caustic Soda to start the reaction. I start with 0.3 grammes.

Dissolve the Caustic soda into the Methanol and then add the Vegetable oil. Shake the jar for about 15 minutes and leave to settle for about two hours.

You should get two distinct layers in your jar, BioDiesel at the top and glycerine at the bottom.

If you don't get separation you would then repeat the process from the start adding an extra 0.1 gramme of Caustic Soda each time to the Methanol/Vegetable oil until you get the separation.

Once you have established your quantities you just have to multiply them up and make your main batch.

So if your test separated at 0.3 grammes of Caustic Soda then you can multiply everything into litres (multiply by 10), i.e. for every litre of Vegetable oil you would be using 200 milliliters of Methanol and 3 grammes of Caustic Soda.

You would then dissolve the Caustic Soda into the Methanol in the plastic drum, add the Vegetable oil, stir with the electric drill/paint stirrer and leave to settle overnight.

In the morning you would siphon the BioDiesel off the top and dispose of the glycerine.

Joseph

Hey guys, I'm here again! Sorry to post so late but I was very busy for a change!!

Anyway, I'm in with landymaniac's idea! If you need any help with getting it organised just let me know. :megaphone

At the moment I am preparing a sort of application form for these events. Buzz, I know that you may not like the idea of having a form :( , but I want to give these things some better shape other than just a bunch of friends drinking beer (though that will always be our custom and tradition;) ) or otherwise we will never make it through the current jungle of laws :smallprinabout greenlaning and off-roading. Sorry if it sounds like too much  but now that we've got the attention and support of AWDC and more people are agreeing to this idea I think it's the right time to push it all one step ahead!! ;)

But, first things first, I look forward to landymaniac's day!!! :p

mela as discussed yesterday for those who did not attend we shall meet on Sunday 13th near lowenbraul factory in that large parking, near the horses track. We shall meet at 11am.

route is going to be:
qormi - ballut blocks - burmarrad - bidnija - zebbiegh - manikata - golden bay.

we will stop there and make bbq and drink beer (its better if we get a 100 gallon tank with us for the pee)

All tracks are roads near valleys and normal roads. NO TRACKS ARE GOING TO BE HELD IN VALLEYS. We do not want to damage any vegetation or our vehicle.

Speed on normal road has to be limited to those with tdi as there are going to be slow coaches me number 1 with 2.3:D . We should avoid overtaking each other and keep our position and a car space is to be kept between each vehicle to respect road regulations and minimise accidents and do not cause any traffic problems. On other roads has to be much more limited to avoid accidents.

Any comments shoot:grouphug:

Re spacing between vehicles, while on tarmac a space a vehicle to overtake should be left between each of ours to allow traffic to flow by us. (Due to the fact we have inferior 2.3litre engines among us and naturaly aspirated vehicles too. hence we'll be travelling at quite a slow speed. hehehe.... :p )

Hi ppl,

My landy won't make it tomorrow... however I got another landy and will be navigator :)

Seems like timing has called it a day or some valve not closing well.... Symptom are power loss and loads of white smoke while idling and engine break.... Anyways cu tomorrow

Well... what's sure is I'll be running on some mean set of mud-terrain rubber on our future offroad trips. Looking for some good cheap mud terrains. BF Goodrich will bankrupt me and make me cry when (note.. WHEN not IF) they get punctured, so I'm going for some cheaper tyres which will see nothing but punishment. When they blow, at least they didn't cost the world.

My current all-terrain softies will get relegated to road duties solely. They finally gave me the reason to fork out the cash. 3 times in the same not-so-bad conditions (wonder how far I'd get in REAL competitions) and in the same place (the sidewall... and no.. not the same tyre every time) is enough to blow the pop off valve in my wallet.

Bravo! Great fun guys.... really a nice way to end the weekend.

I liked the fact that it wasnt a speed dash from one place to the other. By going at a moderate speed we rarely `lost` each other along the way... which makes being a nicely sized group less of a hassle.

I found my cooking `box`.. i had put i it behind a door at home and didnt see it on the way out. Phew..

Next on the list however is a comfy chair... and cooler.

Baptist.. you`ll be hearing new noises now.. only normal. Just double check whatever.. and see from there.
