okay, real techi question:

I have a G3Powerbook Pismo series, with two 128 Mb SDR 333Mhz RAM chips, I shall be buying the larger Mac Mini with 512Mb Ram which has the DDR 333Mhz RAM chips, will it be possible to add the two SDR 333Mhz RAM chips to it or will it screw things up?

To what i can remember... SD and DDR ram chips have a different pin-out connection, so its physically impossible to stick one into the other. And DDR ram clocked at 333Mhz is faster than the SD RAM equivalent.

Secondly... RE: the mac mini has only 2 Ram slots. And when buying the 512RAM model, they occupy the 2 slots with 2 x 256Ram chips.. which is a ******. If you want more than 512Ram memory.... get the 256Ram Model and buy a 512Ram chip which is compatible. Thats cheaper than Apples upgrade.. and gives you a total of 512 + 256 = 768Ram.

Loads of people are doing this, and its not difficult to do it yourself it seems. And i`ve read somewhere that if you take it to an Apple store... they`ll stick in the extra Ram for free.

Sorry i dont remember the sites were i read all this... but if you look around for this info.... you`ll find it surely.

yeah SD and DDR are completely different and not interchangeable.

Oops... i`d like to correct my previous post.... the mac mini only has 1 DDR Ram slot... so if you take a 512Ram model you cant upgrade it and use the other chip too.

Best is... get the 256ram model... and upgrade to 512 or 1GB at the same store...
ask if its possible... cause its surely being done around.
