Took the twin axle caravan down to an excellent site in Suffolk for my first tow down the A1. Previously we had towed with a Fourtrak but needed the extra weight of the disco for the kerbweight ratio. It handled very well and returned a credible mpg of 23/24 The Mercedes Sprinters notorious bow wave was in evidence but did not trouble us too much. There were quite a few discos about and many towing larger caravans so all in all I seem to have made a good choice for a tow vehicle. I had mentioned the old dog in a previous post and had to lift her in and out each time we stopped which my back is telling me. I will have to get a ramp sorted out before many more trips. I just thought that a word in praise of the disco was in order

Is the Mercedes Sprinter the name/make of your caravan then? I was a bit puzzled by the comment about bow wave

I find the Discovery to be a pleasent tow vehicle. I don't bother to use a stabaliser because I've found that as long as the caravan is loaded properly, I don't need one. The extra weight is a definate advantage - you want the vehicle to command the caravan, not the other way around.

Mercedes Sprinters are 5 metre long white vans that travel normally at 70+ and the air that they push in front tends to waggle the caravan a little. As they are going faster they seem to have more of an effect than a slower moving overtaking articulated lorrymost of the panel vans of this size have the same effect
