Hello everyone,

I am happy to say that I haven't posted in a while ... simply because Madeline The Disco has been going along without any problems (touch wood).

So please forgive me my stupid question, brace yourselves, here goes:

Does my 1993 (L Reg) Discovery 200tdi have an immobiliser fitted as standard?

She has the Land Rover CAT alarm system, with a blipper. But I can't find any confirmation in the handbook, on the logbook or in the Haynes manual that she also has an immobiliser. I wouldn't worry but I am about to set up new insurance and having had my last Landy stolen, the last thing I want to do is get it wrong and invalidate my cover.

Is there any way I can tell? Or can anyone confirm that an immobiliser is standard on the older Discos?

Thanks so much for your help

You're not a thickie - there's no such thing as a daft question, just daft answers. Someone will be along soon with the answer, I'm sure.

Hi. Perhaps your local dealer might be able to tell you the specification of the alarm system. Failing that I had a similar problem once. So, I set the alarm off and tried to see if the engine started. ;)

Don't worry! I checked what my quote would be without an immobiliser .. and it turns out that it makes no difference at all to the price!

So in light of all the confusion, and because the Thatcham website seems to imply that it wouldn't be an approved immobiliser anyway (too old) I am going to say it hasn't got one.

Panic over .. although I may be back next year when I come to shop around for insurance quotes again ;)
