We have had to add antifreeze to our land rover over the past two weeks (approx. 3 gallons). We can't find the leak at all. Today when I started it up a clicking/knocking sound was evident. Any idea what this could be? Thanks!
Well, all that antifreeze must be going somewhere!
If it 's not on the driveway, it's probably going down the exhaust pipe, and a compression check is the next step.
Mind you, if you are getting mechanical noises, check the dipstick first - just in case your oil has been diluted with 3 gallons of antifreeze. Also worth checking for play on the fan / waterpump as sometimes not too much play can result in fans making contact with cowlings.
Good hunting

Well, if your water pump start to fail the first thing to escape is steam....howver, 3 gallons is a lot of steam!
If you have not seen water on the driveway and you are not blowing lots of white smoke then the water is going into the oil - time for an oil change.
has this already been said :)
