View Full Version : Airbag light problem continued
Hi Gang,
Getting closer to the deal for my 1997 Disco. Just spoke to my mate about the airbag light fix probably being a simple bulb and reset for around 30£.
However he has been told, that when a new airbag is plugged into the car the light goes out. New airbag about 1000£....
Does anyone know of a good reputable private or otherwise mechanic in the woodford area of London who could verify this for him and me. He is a mate and is not trying to ripp me off. At the same time I know that he can trade it in for a new one and the garage doing the deal probably could not give a hoot....
Thanks in advance
If I disconnect the light.... Will it get thru the MOT?????
No joke :p

I had a quick check and from what I can see the Airbag system is not tested on the MOT, check out: http://www.motester.co.uk/qanda.html for clarification.

Thanks for that Nick, personaly having never had airbags I could quite happily drive the car knowing one of them was "defectuive"
Anyone else have any knowledge of Airbags and MOT???

Just for your info, during a crash there is no guarantee that the airbags will actually go off!! They are only a safety item when the actually work!! I know several people who have had defective airbags. Unfortunately I do not think there is any legal claim in the event of a failure.

Hi, did you check my link?
If you are still concerned a call to your local MOT centre will confirm the position. It is best to call the one you are going to use.
Nick.

I have checked with the Dept of Transport and MOT dept and Airbag is currently not part of MOT so no problems removing there (removed it on my track car)
However, your insurance company will throw a fit!!!
