I have just come home on the back of a break down truck [Oh the shame of it :o ]
I was towing the van and noticed the temp on its way up , I stopped just before the red and noticed the thermotat housing was hot [very] the head was normal temp..
After a bit of poking about the temp went back to normal, but I lost a bit of coolant, we carried on for about 20 miles with the temp on normal, andput abpint of water in, after about 2 miles the temp shot up again, I stopped, waited 10 min. and everthing returned to normal, after a couple of times I thought it was breakdown time, and expected the mechanic to have a look but he said he was only recovery and took us home.
I have a sneeky feeling this is head gasket [again] but could it be the thermostat? :( any ideas?

Just a thought! I will pop round tomorrow to laugh at you anyway!!!! :D

Hi Gurkha,
Yep, removed, gone, taken out, disposed of. :flushed:.. pesky little critter :bigun2: It is an ex thermostat, deceased,:behead: dead...
Its the second thermostat that has let me down, first one stuck open, this one stuck shut, luckily I don't think the engine got hot enough to bu66er the head up.
I suppose when the winter comes round again I will have to fit another one, or the lovely Louise will freeze the female equivelent of her nuts off :D
