I modified my bumper on a big rock, they sit far too low. After stripping it down for repairs, I measured up the fixing brackets etc; I intend to make a new one from 3mm mild steel. Anyone done anything similar or would like to?
AAB or ABB supply one bit it is a bit steep at around £500.00.
I am fitting a new winch next week, the one supplied by Landrover and it comes with a bracket. Someone pointed out that it will decrease the approach angle cos it will stick out 200 mm from the front of bumper.
Another reason to fab my own as it will sit in the well where the air scoop is. Will this affect the airsteam to the rads, obviously it will but will it matter?

I know that Callisr made his own bumper a couple of years ago. You might want to try sending him a PM.

Thanks for the info.
I have spent some time pondering the buy one - make one situation and I have decided to buy one. It worked out at about three or four days solid work to make one and then it may not look right or work right.

Dont blame you ;) which one you going to get ? I was thinking of getting a scorpion rear reciever and shackle as they do them for d2 now, but at 150 tokens, I think I'd be better getting a full rear bumper with reciever built in from dp for about 250 :) I would get a replacement front if there was one with the lower bits detachable, to expose a steering guard and recovery points, how nice would that be :D I dont really like the look on the car of the other replacement bumpers with high clearance

Trimming the bottom off the original works well on a D2 and looks OK, it doesnt catch much either once trimmed
But I went ARB in the end. The TJM has more clearnece but just isnt as strong and doesnt have built in recovery points. The ARB is sronger and onlky a tadge lower, both take a winch
I have photos of trimmed front bumper and ARB, pm me you email and I will send them to you

I fitted a TJM to mine and have been very happy with it. I did have to get the winch tray so that I could fit recovery points, and replace my steering guard, but as I only paid £100 for it (off of eBay) I could afford it ;)
There are pics on my website of the fitting etc . . .

I bought the ARB bumper, took about 5 hours to fit and you need a long M10 steel drill bit. I feel it is a bit loose even with all the bolts fully tight, ie if you bump it, it will move on the chssis mounts. Could weld it bit it would be a pig to get off if needs replacing.
You know its there when you are driving, feel a bit heavy on the steering, I suppose I will get used to that.
pics attached, they are a bit dark cos they were taken at 7.00 this morning. I will post again one all work is complete, ie lamps, 2" lift, rear bumper, diff guards etc.

Diff guard too, good idea :D Those arb bumpers are pretty huge eh, I remember a post on a thread from a guy with an arb, warning that he bent his chassis when he hit something with the bumper cos its so strong, be carefull out there.. Looks good though, with mud tyres an all :D
when u say its loose, do you mean you can move it by hand once its all done up ? if so, that doesnt sound right...

Alan.
Have you wired up the indicators that fit flush with the bumper? I have same ARB bumper as yours....but my Disco is a 97/8' 3 Door basic spec model. There are some unused cable connections and wires under the front end but none of them were indicators.
Would anyone happen to know what colour wires are used for the small front additional indicators that fit into the bumper?
Are you fitting a winch to your ARB? I had to pack my springs with inch spacers to raise the front again!
Thanks and regards.
