My 92 Disco has lost syncro on second and is losing it on fourth. I may be able to obtain a more recent R380 box very cheap. So my question to all you knowledgeable people is .....will it fit where a LT77 used to be? Or how many mods do I need to make it fit?

The Disco is a manual 5 speed 1992 3.5V8.

My 94 200tdi has the later 380 box attached so it must be possible!

I reckon you get the best of both worlds with the, IMHO, best of the Tdi's and the better 'box with no pooters to mess around with or go wrong.

Mine came with it already done so i cant say what bell housing vs clutch or anything like that but i 'believe' its a straight swap.

dont forget that reverse is down by 5th not 1st!!

The R380 should just bolt on instead of the Lt77, I made an engine swap and kept the gearbox all I needed was the bell housing for the r380 to fit the Lt77 instead of the r380.
Gear ratios are also the same on both boxes.

So, if I get this right, the bellhousing of an R380 fits an LT77 box. The worst I might have to do then is use my LT77 bellhousing and fit the R380 box to it.

Sounds good.....and a lot easier than rebuilding my box.....thanks. :)

Well let me tell you the full story.
I had a V8 on mine and fitted a 300tdi. To mate the lt77 to the 300tdi I had to use the r380 bell housing.
I am pretty confident tho that all that may be needed is bell housing to mate in your case too.
The V8/lt77 bell housing may not be the same as the 200tdi/lt77 bell housing.

As for the bell housings of both gear boxes yes they are interchangeable I know that they had to use the fork lever and other bits from the r380 clutch on mine but you won't have that problem as your fitting the r380.

No,No rebuilding needed.
Idealy I would have liked the R380 on mine too but I was told the mine was still in good nick and wasn't worth changing a perfectly good box, esspecially as there is no gear ratio difference.

Thanks Buzz, still sounds like a go-er.

You had a V8/LT77, so do I.

You replaced the engine with one that should have an R380 box.

To mate the two parts you used an R380 bellhousing.

I will be doing the same but opposit!

I have an engine that should have an LT77 and I will connect an R380 using the LT77 bellhousing.

Let you all know how it goes once I have 'obtained' :D the R380.
