I've got an 01 Disco2 TD5 ES7 with 18 inch Alloys and some fairly cheap 255/55 x 18 road orientated tyres on.....
I'd like a spare set of wheels with some AT's to go play with. Can anyone advise if there are any straight swap wheels I could fit to the motor and what size wheels and tyres would you advise?
P.S. cost is a big issue.......

I picked up a set of 16" alloys off a P38 Rangie (from eBay) and then kitted them out with Colway MT/R's. Total cost, less than £300. More than happy with them.
If you're gonna be playing then get some 16" wheels from either a series 2 Disco or a P38, they both fit. Depending on what you're planning it may be better to go with MT's rather than AT's. Sizewise, the standard is 235/70R16's but you can go bigger if you wanted (there's lots of threads about this subject).
Give Nene Valley Tyres (Northampton) a call. They're always very helpful and will usually do you a deal.

agreed, if your getting some tyres to play with go MT.. Sizewise, I put 245/70 16 AT's on mine, they fit perfectly, but thats your limit without some mods.. You will be able to get a set of bfg at's for your 18" rims soon though, can't you wait till then :D

The amout of threads on tyres was leaving me rather confused that is why I started my own to get the specific info I wanted.

18" AT's sound pretty good do ya have anymore info on them?

From talking to sales people at stands etc, I got the impression that goodridge and general are racing to get the 18" at's out :) they are due in may/june time iirc.. ;)

Will there be enough profile on them, if they are 255/55, for off road use without risking the alloys tho?......

my 16" wheels are alloys too ;) one of the things I like about Goodridge AT or MT KO is the rim protection, the rubber covers the rim of the wheel very well :D I would imagine the 18" tyres will be the same, worth checking though when they become available.

Land rover alloys are rated for off road use, whereas most after market alloys are not. So Land rover alloys should be strong enough to take the knocks as well as steel wheels. The main differences are, you can hammer out a buckled steel wheel if your desperate and I guess you won't mind scratching them as much as you would your alloys :D

I've bought a lot of stuff over the years I never really needed, so now I tend to wait till I need something, eg, in your position i would stick 18" AT's on and see how I get on, probably you'll be happy for a very long time and if I did manage to damage one of the wheels, then I'd just replace it and be more carefull and/or get an extra set if I thought I would use them often enough to bother changing the wheels over... :)

imho of course :D

Picked up 4 x P38 16" 235's wheels at the weekend from Newark Auto Jumble so looks like I'll have the spare set of wheels option......

Not sure what the pattern is called as I'd like to pick up a 5th to have as a spare?

As mentioned before, give Nene Valley a call 01604 781187. They always have a stock of old wheels knocking around.
