Get one. We did and were VERY surprised by their performance....

Food gets frozen if left on overnight!

We camp (until we got our first caravan this year) and we couldn't do without it. We bought our igloo cooler 2 years ago and the summer was very hot were we were staying. The cooler more than took the punishment, but frozen butter in the morning caused a problem. So, we left it on during the day, and left it sealed and off overnight. No worries at all. It far outperforms both the Coleman and the Calor Gaz coolboxes we had used before. And it has less trouble in the 2 years of regular use we put it thru than the other types gave in 7 and 3 months respectively. Excellent value, i can't rate it high enough.

How well would they work in the desert??

Yeah they work....

Had one in the desert for a few years.....it was nice having cold milk etc. Youve just got to be a bit canny in not opening it often during the day and include pree frozen ice packs if on short journeys. But then that was 4 years ago...im sure things have improved tech wise

We've got quite an old one. Am ded chuffed with it - as everyone says, in all but the hottest weather they perform almost too well.
I'll definitely replace with another Igloo when the time comes (which looks like still being years if not decades away).
