hi when i am going up hills in my 300tdi,it really struggles it is ok on the flat any ideas

Yes, don't go up hills!
But seriously, my 200 was doing similar last year, in one particular place on the way home from work I had to change down to third, it used to cope ok in forth. I had the tappets checked and adjusted on the next service and it completely cured the problem.
Reading other post on this subject would suggest it could be a whole number of things, some pretty technical, so a GOOD, PROVEN, diesel specialist is required if they are going to start adjusting little screws here and there.

It could also be the rubber pipe from the intercooler to the turbo (I think that’s right) it can sometimes collapse on the inside thus reducing airflow between the two parts.

This quite happens on the Freelanders, not heard of it on a 300TDi but i'm sure it is very capable!!

Mmmmm must have the wrong part, but there are some rubber tubes that delaminate and the inside collapses. it happened to mine, loss of power on the 300tdi.
