on the disco 1 there is a wading plug on the sump,is there one on the gear box or bellhousing if so is it the same size as the one on the sump

timing cover + there is allready one on the flywheel housing that should be drained after wading and replaced.

V8 + MPi
fit plug to flywheel housing if wading.

Auto gearbox :D
flywheel housing is sealed

from the handbook.

+ dont the diff's need plugs/ breathers??

Yes, they do - and it's worth a check that they're there and fitted with extension pipes. They _should _ be run up to about the chassis rails and have a U-turn on the top to prevent water getting in when submerged. If not then the diff will definately take in water, actually sucking it in if it was warm as it cools down rapidly. Results are not pretty, especially if the oil level wasn't at max to begin with.
