HI
What is normal temperature for disco 200 TDI
The other day when I was driving faster uphill the temperature gauge come almost to the red line, actually it was one step lower. Is this normal or not? If is not what I should check first, I already check water in cooling system and it is enough, fan is working but I don’t know how to check temperature sensor. Do I have a valve that is opening when the temperature increase, I haven’t seen it. What to do?
Thanks

Ummm fairly sure the thermostat opens at 82 degrees! might be 88, I think thats a 19J thermostat tho!
check the condition of your rad and viscous fan.

where the termostat should be and what is RAD.

Sorry! RAD = Radiator and the thermostat is located on top of the waterpump, follow the RADs top hose towards the engine, it will curve down towards a triangular piece of cast metal with 3 bolts going through it. This is the thermostat housing.
if you need a picture to help just ask!

I'm not sure but I think I don't have a thermostat, I'll have to check it again. :o

you should do, otherwise your enigne would take forever to heat up!
I you can take a pic of your engine bay and I will point it out to you!

Ok this is what your thermostat and housing should look like Igor!

according to spec 200tdi was fitted with 82 stat but iff you go to l /rover they will give you a 88 which is what the 300 was fitted with, see what yourve got fitted . the other thing is the viscous coupling on the fan which can give up.to test it, run to normall temp switch off engine !!!!! and spin fan there should be some resistance iff you leave it to cool and try again youl notice the fan will spin easy.the other thing iff yourve been off road check rads clear from debris.hope this helps, bilge rat........

OK I have that, now is there any way to check if it is working properly? Bilge rat I will be able to check that tomorrow, it is already dark here

The only way to check a thermostat is to take it out, which means you will need a gasget to refit it!
To test is easy: Place thermostat in a saucepan of water with a thermometer, raise the temp of the water until the thermostat opens and note the temperature.
It should be either 82 or 88 degrees depending on which thermostat you have. The thermostat will have either 82 or 88 on it somewhere!
If the thermostat fails to open or opens earlier or later then it is knackered and should be replaced! Of course there is a slight error either side of 82 or 88 degrees but it won't be too much, a couple of degrees at most!
It sound like your fan to me mind! when you check it waggle it perpendicular to the direction of rotation (across the fan), there should be no movement in this plane. If there is the fan is knackered and needs to be replaced, well actually just the viscous unit (centre metal bit). If it is knackered you might want to dump the viscous fan for an electric fan. I did when my fan died (I have a 200tdi too) and haven't looked back!
let us know what happens!

I assume that working temperature is on the half. What about putting a extra electric fan from the front of rad, I’m sure it would help but is it OK.:)

Geobloke one more question, since you have same engine, do we have glow plug fuse or not, i was not able to find it

Do you mean the glow plug fuse or timer relay? Hmm doesn't matter I think we have both!
The timer relay will be situated on the bulkhead of the engine bay inline with the glow plugs, there will be a thick yellow wire going to it.
as for the fuse it has to be in the fuse box! will check for you in a bit when I drive home.

If you are going to fit an electric fan take off the viscous one and cowling and fit it on the back of the rad! you will not need anymore cooling than this!
In total I think my fan has come on about 10 times in 16 months of having it installed. You have to remember that 200 and 300 TDI engines are well over cooled by the viscous. It also uses up more fuel and engine power than an electric!
As for the working temperature it is pretty unique to each landrover, no 2 are the same am affraid. Before it started to overheat where did the needle sit on the gauge during normal driving after the engine had heated up to normal operating temperatures (usually after about 15 minutes of driving)?? This is where yours should sit!
Mine tends to sit just to the hot side of central.

If I go off road and put it in low doesn't meter how steep is slope it heaths les then on the half, but if I drive in H and drive faster it heaths more then half. To be honest it is little strange to me.

How to connect electric fan, should I put new switch or there is the other way to do it. It would be better to make like it is in other vehicles, to turn off and on by it self.

Wiring up the fan is very very simple, I did mine in about an hour. I bought a kenlowe 16" fan (might be 18" can't remember) and fitted it with the thermostat that came with it. Works a treat!
Some people prefer to turn the fan on manually, I like you wanted it to be automatic.

Is a little odd to me to. Having said that when my viscous fan died it overcooled at low revs and under cooled at higher revs so maybe this is what has happened to yours!

Here is a post with some pics of the Kenlowe in Eva! Just look at all that space!!! ;)

HI
I think these question newer end, anyway on the second picture I saw sensor and thermostat, is that sensor from before or you put it later. What about intercooler, how you can upgrade it and also I red on the previous post that it is possible to adjust turbo. Since I newer drove diesel before and I know that diesel suppose to be slower, when I pres accelerator and until rmp comes to 2000, disco is like dead cow, after 2000 turbo begin to work and run like the hell. Can I make turbo working earlier then 2000rmp and how?

just going back to your stat, my disco had an 88 in it ran fine but 65 70 mph guage used to creep up just above half way, after a bit of difficulty in getting an 82 stat it now runs between 3/4 and 1/2 seemed to make all the difference, i think l/rover only started suplying 88 stats instead was because of people complaining about poor heater temperature although mine is great. hope this helps, bilge rat.......
