Need some advice if anyone can offer: Got a 95 Disco V8i with an autobox and I have two queries. One: Is it possible to replace the pinion shaft (linking my transfer box with the gearbox) without removing the transfer box? Two mechanics in Zimbabwe tell me it can be done, but I am not so sure. I do not want to take any chances especially since my transfer box is only two days old (it has already been fitted onto the Disco.
Two: There is a whine coming from my diff gears (the little box that controls the 4X4). The whining gets progressively louder as one picks up speed and when one touches the little gearknob, one can feel it vibrating. This happens no matter which mode is selected. I need to know what the problem might be . Does it need oil? Or should I replace the whole box?
Other than these problems, the the Disco is driving sweetly. Before putting the car in the hands of Zim mechanics I thought maybe one of you enthusiasts may have some answers.
