Hi,

Me again with more Disco queries. Two thing's this time;

When I brake on an uneven surface the brake pedal feed's back a rather odd sensation. It's not a grinding feeling or sound (in fact there's no sound at all - or at least not one I've noticed), it feel's like a crunch. So sorry for the high level technical terminology here but it's the best way to describe the feeling. The more rough the terrain the greater the feeling. If I could qualify the terrain further; I'm not speaking of slow hill's or hollow's, I mean bumpy, ragged dirt track's and road. Not too sure if I explained it correctly so to summarise; As I depress over rough ground the pedal suddenly goes almost rigid for a split moment, it then return's to normal and then it goes rigid again. This all happen's very quickly. I have no brake system warning's and the fluid resevoir is OK. Is this normal?

Finally, has anyone fitted A-Bar's to their Disco. I noted a technical warning for the 2003 Disco such that the A-Bar is not recommended for vehicle's with Airbag's. I'm assuming this is because the impact sensor's at the front of the vehicle are impaired due to the A-Bar. But what about a 2000 Disco II. I'll be honest...Do I need one? No...Am I likely to need one? No...I just like the look of them.

Thanks in advance,

Take care

The braking sounds like the abs operating normally.

Land rover do a genuine a plastic A bar for the disco and I've seen other "copies". Not sure on the suitability of metal ones though.

I second what Shrek said about the brakes.

Hi,

Many Thank's! I too thought it might be the ABS but just wasn't sure. It's my first Landy so please forgive the inexperience. It's a very odd sensation though.

So Sorry!

I'm such an impatient fecker sometimes. As this is my first Landy and I was so thrilled just by the fact of having it, I neglected to thoroughly check the driver's instruction's and in it (I have just discovered), it indeed mention's the characterictic's of the ABS. Doh! Don't I feel like a dope!

No more stupid question's... Promise!

Thanks again,

A stupid question is one that's not asked. :)

I'm often over in Ireland... I miss my Landy when I'm there, so I'm looking for new off roading mates over there.

I know Kildare... or rather I know the N7.. thank god for that new bit of Motorway. It must have knocked 30 or 40 minutes of our journey down to Kerry form the ferry.

Hi SG,

Yeah, that new bit of the N7 was long overdue but don't get me started on the rest of the road's...in fact "road" is too generous a term. Anyway, spend a good bit of time in Kerry myself. Great spot once you get away from the tourist trap's. Will be a while before I take my Disco offroad. Still havn't treated the chassis and just noticed the HDC is faulty - Not too sure how useful it is. Look's like the weather is clearing up and I've next week off so I'll be getting busy/dirty with the chassis.

Take care

Regarding the HDC I thought mine was faulty till I went back to the dealer and they told me it only worked in low range. :o Should have read the manual. :D

Believe it or not on this occasion I did some research of my own and didn't take the shortcut and ask you guy's. I was aware that it only kick's in Low range...I still get an amber light though. And as for the manual alway's RTFM as my two earlier experience's this week have testified. Have ordered the workshop manual...can't wait to get a look at it.
