Any thoughts on a 2002 Discovery with the Td5 engine. February this year the vehicle had a service (by main dealers) shortly after when oil checked it was found to be an inch above the level. took it back to dealers, where it was corrected. June this year engine came to a halt with black smoke and loss of throttle, when oil was dipped level was 3 inches above the mark. Vehicle recovered by main dealers and new injector fitted. Since then beginning of July vehicle came to a halt with loss of pedal and engine warning light showing (check engine) and when oil level dipped was found to be 3 inches above level again.Recovered to main dealer who fitted with new sealing washers. There seem to be a continous problem of diesel getting into the oil, the only way i can see would be through the injectors, perhaps injecting on the exhaust stroke as well as the power stroke ie. problem with ECU. Has anyone else experience this problem of the sump filling up with diesel, as dilution of the oil will not be doing the engine any good.

hi disco dora,
Yes we did get to the problem. I had a reply from someone in Australia who had this problem. There seemed to be with some TD5 engines that cracks will occur in the internal pressurised fuel rail. when this happens there is only one place for the fuel to go and that is into the oil thus filling the sump. in our case because the vehicle was still under warranty, Land Rover replaced the engine and since then we have had no more problems.
I am not sure what parts can be replaced or if it is within the main castings, I am sorry but it sounds like and engine strip. It might be worth talking with Land Rovers since it is a problem and I don't think they like to own up about it.
Cheers
