Howayiz!

Been reading through my recently found (tucked in behind the driver seat) manual for my 2000 Disco II (Oh How I love that vehicle!). Anyway, there's a very small section in it on using mobile phone's etc. inside the Landy without the use of an external aerial. LR advise against using mobile phone's etc. inside the cab unless you're using an external aerial. It makes total sense that such emission's inside the vehicle would interfere with it's electronical operation's but I'm curious to what extent? Has anyone experienced noticable differences after being on the phone/switching on phone/when phone is chasing network?

Ta!

Hi ! dredge ,
What does the manual say about the possible effects ??
Is it related to just the in-car entertainment system ?
Or do they relate it to the vehicles engine management system ?

I have had no problems with using mine. The only problem I have is with bad reception in the hills and valleys.

Hi,

This is what the manual says:

"Warning: Refrain from operating a telephone fitted with its own aerial inside the vehicle. Your vehicle utilises a number of electronic systems designed to provide you with maximum comfort, safety and economy. These systems may be affected by the use of mobile communication equipment inside the vehicle. However, the use of an external aerial will greatly reduce the likelihood of this occurrence........the electromagnetic field radiated by the phone may interfere with the vehicle's electrical system's."

It would appear that the aerial is the main issue.

Thanks,

have fitted many phone kits to l/r with no problems, some times a little interferrence on radio but muteing the radio cures that.if you buy a l/r kit it comes with an internal aerial!.this warning harks back to the early days of mobile phones and air bag systems, but aint a problem now

I am always on the phone in my LR with no effects to car nor stereo, perhaps it was when Digital Mobile first came out and there were warning labels that read like a phone book.
It was because of the way digital works they wern't too sure of what would happen.
