finding ot difficult to select third or fourth
its as if the selector is loose

Before you head for the box of Kleenex tissues take the centre console out. You will find under this the spring and gate that makes gear selection more positive. You may discover that a spring has broken or moved, re-adjustment could be a cheap and simple solution.
