... yes, I know you've heard it all before.. but I too, want to drive across Africa in my 90! Realistically, this probably won't materialise untill sometime in 2004. In the mean time, I have to clear debts, raise funds, and find someone mad enough to join me. Any kindred spirits out there?....

Don't tell me you want to go all the way to South Africa...
If yes, which crazy trips did you do before? Vladivostok and back is also a nice one. Involved 2000kms on railway tracks.
The Sahara and the African jungles are not to be taken lightly, you'll need spares and mechanical experience and a good working knowledge of French and an IRON character to deal with some males. Believe me, I've been to Algeria and Morocco, I've sharpened all the tools of a desert town and swallowed a lot of desert sand.
Australia is my destination of choice, nice people, no Muslim crap, nobody minds when you fix your 4WD in the caravan park during three days, the desert is as sandy and as big but you avoid all sorts of other trouble.
Oh yes, we still are considering a trip through Africa, if heavily sponsored. But that should involve no less than 4 trucks, defintely all LONG wheelbase. (Avoid loading anything on roof racks.)
Wanna come to Belarus instead? Two Land Rovers, lotsa mud for 600kms. No trouble except for what the Land Rover is good for. We'll go there in august/September. And believe me, less people have travelled the muddy plains of Belarus than eaten sand in the Sahara...

Thanks Annette, for your response.. but I have to tell you, I have an affinity with Africa that rivals my love of Land Rovers.. since working as a volunteer in Tanzania back in '95, I've developed a fascination for the place. A couple of years ago I drove from Cape Town to Vic Falls, through Namibia and Botswana.. it was a wonderful trip and gave me an appetite for more. Last year I bought my 90 and took it on a test run down to Morocco... no hassle! For me, Africa offers more than just off-road terrain, it has amazing wild life, and diverse culture and language to explore and digest.
So Africa is my choice!

happy travels...
