have only managed to go from scotland down through england, over the channel through france to north spain, which was fab and easy apart from one thing, i forgot to bring the blanks for the headlights which meant for some difficult times in france the first night till i used some black elec tape. otherwise the trip was fine in a 1996 disco with one passenger ( it was 1996 when we done it.)
other than that we have taken the rangie to south france a few times as well as the defenders, again with no problems.
never managed a proper trip with other landy people :(

Ah you got me beat, my record is Lossiemoth to St Mawgan (in a day) in the mighty mighty 110 an on the way back up (48hrs later) to winch a flipped caravan off the A30 to assist officer Dibble. He was so grateful an I got home just before rear propshaft lost all the bearings in a UJ.......
Close one dudes

The 110 has been to Andorra for 2 seasons and on jaunts to calais.
I guess I'm getting itchy feet and am wondering what it would be like to do a long trip and how it would need to be equiped. I fancy a trip to morroco for starters...

So far we have completed a 4000 mile trip through Germany Switserland and France in a 1.8 Freelander.
Then this year we traveled through France Spain Gibralter then Back in the Discovery in a roof tent.
We are Going to travel around the world in 2007 when I retire from the Army.
The route looks like Canada-USA-S America-NZ-AUS-Indonisia-Asia-Europe.
We are choosing the easy way round first Canada and US to gently introduce the wife to it.

London to Tanzania via Morocco , Mauritania, Nigeria, Zaire as it was then, Kenya etc. Took an extra large tub of Vegemite.
Pic in the avatar is on the Transafrican highway in Zaire - Percy the plonker - 1 ton springs, Perkins powerplant and huge fuel tanks - fully loaded approx 400 litres of diesel. Long runs between fills. :burnout:

Feel free to drop us a note in Botswana if you're coming this way. We should be able to give a few tips if you're planning on camping in our neighbourhood.
Cheers.
PS - And ditto for James - only just saw your note.

:D dad and drove to the swiss alps and back last winter in his rangie (2002 vouge V8 petrol) and I can highly recomend it a joy on the french moterways, when froggy the frenchman in his renault five with 8 cases of cheep wine the family two red setters welded to the rear window and granny in the front, tries to get past you doing 70 and you dont want him to 70MPH to 120MPH in a few seconds is so satisfying! the look on his garlic smelling face is a joy as well.
fun fun fun!:D :D :D :D :D :D :D

1) Johannesburg through to Nothern Uganda via Zimbabwe, Zambia, Tanzania in 2001 and back via the same route in 2002.
2) Johannesburg to Kilimanjaro via Mozambique, Malawi, Tanzania and returning via Zambia and Zimbabwe in 2003
3) The entire coastline of Mozambique from South Africa to Tanzania.
4) The whole coastline of South Africa from Kosi Bay to Alexander Bay.
I'd love to plan a trip from Johannesburg to Europe, but time is a problem.

About 2000km through Lesotho in 1996. One memorable pass was 27km long and took us 8 hours in the rain.
Many tarmac roads in Africa are in such bad condition that they're more challenging than driving off-road. Do they count?

Just short of 1100 miles whilst undertaking a 10 day camping trip. Biggest single hit would be the outward and return journeys which were both undertaken in "one hit". Outward London - Harrogate - Leeds - Bradford (keightley), Homeward Whitby - London. By far the best part of the trip was bouncing across the backroads on the North Yorks Moors in the Lightweight, what a blast:)

We did just over 1,000 miles in 24 hours in the 90, up to SKye and beyond taking turns driving.
And just did 1,550 miles in the 110 in 4 days > Surrey > Sussex > Devon > home.
Both trips with no problems, nice and comfortable :)

From the Iran/Pakistan border to Quetta (IIRC approx 800km) was mostly dirt, but there were sections of part built road. And the road from the western end of Nepal was again part built with no bridges. We did about 10 river crossings.
But I do have a terrible confession to make, it wasn't in a landy..... it was in a 2cv:D
