Hi all,

Im getting a noticable vibration from underneath when driving over 60mph, i've recently had all the bushes replaced and the rubber doughnut on the rear prop, could this be showing up problems with the UJ's?

I can't think of anything else that could be at fault as the vibrations aren't being felt through the steering wheel.

Cheers,
Iain

My Dad had a similar problem in his 98MY 300TDI Discovery. It was still ynder warranty and the dealer spent alot of money replacing the clutch, checking swivel pin pre-loads. In the end an Independant Land Rover mechanic found the Viscous fan coupling to be the source of the vibration.
Hope this helps

Graeme.

Hi there,

Viscous Fan coupling?? Can't see it being that as its coming from underneath the landrover, sounds as though its the drivetrain. If it was the Fan coupling I think you'd feel it through the power range.

Iain

sounds like the front drive shaft, had the same with mine a week ago, be careful when you check it though. might appear ok but have a good look at the transmission side, also noticed a tikking sound while accellerating??

could also be the wheels, swap one by one if driveshaft is ok...

defenitly not the cooling fan, should notice it through all your gears and even in nutral (how do you spell this????)....

Hi,

You mean the front propshaft? And how did you remedy the situation?

Cheers,
Iain

take it of check it and repair it if broken..

Seems always only one of the four bearings tends to wear while the rest seems ok.. in this case the propshaft starts hamering while accelerating and at higher speed.

If you have the propshaft of and youre still not sure... encage difflock and go for a drive.. if the vibration is gone its just the propshaft.. if its not gone do a complete check up of the driveline

but i am pretty sure its the driveshaft,.... sorry propshaft

Hi,

Whilst painting the rear of my chassis I checked both my props. There is no movement in the rear one but the front one moves quite a bit. This is with the handbrake on,parked level. Is this pointing to failed UJ's or a prop?

Cheers,
Iain
