Hi Filipe

I found this site: http://www.disco2.com/tech/bodyelec/ice.phtml when I was looking in to an ipod adapter for mine. It only covers the head unit, and I also think it's the NAS spec vehicle but it's the best I've found so far.

And did you find one? I have an ES, with R990 head unit as shown on the site you listed (thanks for that - a great link) but can't find an iPod adaptor. I don't want to use a cassette one, and have heard iTrips and the like (as well as being illegal) are no use in London, with the crowded FM band. As an aside, do you know if the CD changer/head unit can read MP3 CDs as I could burn some discs in iTunes which contain more songs than an album if I can't use my iPod.
Cheers,
Rich

Thanks a lot Simon.
That's the info I was looking for.
Now it's easy to fit in the new amplifier.

Rich,
As far as I know, The factory CD changer can't read MP3. But you can replace it by one it does, although many of the info yo may have in MP3 format will not be displayed in the head unit. Somebody is selling Alpine changers in e-bay.com that presumably can do that.

Filipe,
Thanks for the answer - I'll check out e-bay!

Rich - no I've not got an ipod adpter yet. I may be getting a bit closer - we've got a Denison ICE link adapter for our other car (an audi, concert II head) and the sound and integration with the head unit is great, so I want the equivalent for the discovery. Denison's site (http://www.dension.com/oem.php) shows compatibility with an Alpine 'headed' discovery, model XQD101043PUY. The unit in mine is model XQD000110LNF - the optimist in me says that's close enough so it should work :). But the UK supplier I got the audi one from (http://www.ghc.co.uk/) hasn't confirmed yet whether it will work.

I'll post back here if I get the right answer...

Where did you find this number? All I can find for mine (which looks like the one at the link you provided here http://www.disco2.com/tech/bodyelec/ice.phtml ) is R990 in the audio manual.

I had to pull the unit out to find it - it's on a sticker underneath. If you're taking yours out, and if you haven't already got them, don't get ripped off paying loads for the keys to pull the unit out (I did...). All you need is a couple of plain metal strips about 5cm long - slide in to the 2 slots to push down the sprung locking tabs, then ease the unit gently out using the cassette slot for grip.

Filipe,
I seem to have high-jacked your thread a bit here. I have searched for wiring connections further for you, but have got nowhere. Have you had any joy?

Simon,
Have you seen this?:
http://www.essentialipod.co.uk/product.php?xProd=1875&xSec=1
They sell it at ghc too, but the link to it was not direct, so I've used the one above.

Rich

PS bought a Belkin cassette adaptor today, as I must have tunes for the London to Brighton tomorrow, but will now probably go out and buy a SmartDeck now, unless you find a Denison that works, Simon.

Simon,

Don't know if you had any joy in the end, but I'm about to order from these guys:

I'll let you know how it goes!

Rich,

I'd be really interested to know how you get on with this. I was on the lookout for something similar. Although, in the link it doesn't say if this ipod link means you have to unplug/lose the CD player (I have to share an ipod with my wife, so would like to be able to use the CD when I don't have the ipod).

I read elsewhere that the CD player has a standard RCA type cable connector (although I've not been able to find it) which may allow for an in-line connection of the ipod, I'm not sure if this is correct though.

Cheers

Hi all,
I end up by buying an interface the supports both an Alpine CD changer and the pod at the same time. It looks a fair option.
It's made by an american company, Blitzsafe ().
The reference for the duo option is Blitzsafe - LROV/M-LINK-1 V.1D LROV_MLINK1_V1D.
Bought it from http://enfigcarstereo.com/shopsite_sc/store/html/land_rover_ipod.html
I didn't had the time to instal it yet but it shoudl work.

happy new year

Steve. no it replaces the changer - guess you could always buy an extra iPod! ;-) I can see no mention of the RCA connectors on the Disco2 site (link at the start of this thread)
Filipe, looks good! Again, let us know how you get on. I like the Active cradle with the Dension Ice Link, and I'm getting bored with the CDs I burnt for he changer - although I've just been told you can hold the Scan button to enter a random play mode!
Best wishes for 2006

Rich

Thanks for the update - no I've not managed to get an adapter yet, but the link you've found looks promising - please let us know if it works!

A happy new year to you all.

IT WORKS! (but isn't fixed down yet!)

Essentially I received the standard Dension IceLink and also a Sony CD Changer harness adaptor. The IceLink plugs into the Sony Harness and although the instructions said plug that into the back of the head unit, I've unplugged the plug at the back of the changer, under the drivers seat and plugged it in there - essentially the same place just the other end of the cable run! It lets me store the Sony harness adaptor under the changer. I'm going to fix the active cradle onto this:
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Mobile-Phone-PDA-bracket-Land-Rover-Discovery-2_W0QQitemZ4603341175QQcategoryZ31348QQrdZ1QQcmdZV iewItem
so I'll run the cable under the rear ashtray at the back of the cubby box and up the side of the middle console.
If you get one too, the first time you plug the iPod in you get a message telling you to visit a Dension support site and download a silent mp3 file which you play to configure the iPod for your head unit. LandRover isn't listed, and you don't want the Alpine one either - choose the Sony one (like the harness adaptor) and it works a treat! So much better than that cassette adaptor!

Filipe, any joy?

Cheers,

Rich

Richard

Not yet had the time to mount the whole thing.
For me it is not just fitting the adaptor as my current head unit is not amplified. So I need to fit an amp under the seat, the cd changer and wirings head unit-Amp-changer and amp-battery, adaptor. I have made all the wirings last weekend. I have all the parts (4 channels amp, a used alpine 620 cd changer, a new alpine head unit and a very good used steering wheel with the radio controls) except the amp and changer fixing mounts which I'll have to adapt when assembing everything.
Should be doing it in a near weekend and let you know how it went.

cheers

Now it is fixed down, and works perfectly. I'm really pleased with my LR PDA/mobile holder off ebay too - the cradle looks really good on it - much nicer than the mounts they try to sell with the active cradle.

Hello

Has anyone managed to succesfully fit a system to allow an Ipod of any kind to the standard R990 head unit. I have heard of replacing the 6 disc changer with various pieces of kit, which i would like to avoid. Im after anything that can let me plug the ipod in, with or without external control and not change the cars standard and reasonably decent headunit and harmon cardon speakers etc.

My old disco 1 V8i had a front mounted aerial which i used an airplay ipod radio sender with and it worked brilliantly. the disco 2 has an aerial in the back window..this means the signals are not as strong and the airplay doesnt have the guts to send a strong signal.

Any ideas peeps...

Cheers
