The disco's due for it's 24k service (£550  ) and quite a few defects that have appeared over the last few months. It is under warranty but I'm curious to know if anyone has any experiences of the following:
Immobiliser fails to turn off intermittantly. If I turn the alarm on then off it's OK. I know the early systems had a similar fault but didn't expect it on the later ones.
Fuel guage warning light coming on earlier and earlier. Now before the tank is 1/4 empty.
Turbo oil leak around inlet casting.
Gearbox lights coming on and goes into safe mode from start up. Resets with alarm on and off. Only seams to happen after heavy rain.
Reverse sensors on all the time after rain/ washing, even when the sensors are dry.
Rear 6th and 7th seats rattling when in position and unnoccupied.
Outside temp reading innacurate (reading too high) causing the climate control to operate incorrectly?

The Mondeo went in on Saturday to the dealer in Wakefield for a (belated) 24,000mile service as well.

I'm sure that was in the region of about £100, if I'm not mistaken?

No wonder so many people think LR takes the 'wee-wee' :yikes: :yikes: :Cross: :Cross:

mines due for its 24,000mile in next couple of months, at 550pounds i think i will go to a local independent landrover dealer, sofar i dont have any of the problems you mention, except the rattling seats, i rectified this by using a piece of foam behind them which seems to absorb the rattle. I seem to remember reading somthing about this on Disco2.com

good luck with the other problems

Your alarm problem might be due to the poor quality of the soldering. Is the problem that the alarm disarms but the car wont start.

Try speaking to RemoteKey on 0121 580 9090 I now the spiders are know for having problems.

The only problem I have similar is the reverse warning beeps after washing but goes away quite quickly. I think it`s just water which drains away.
I had a thread about service prices which I will include .....

Sorry to bring up this old chestnut but I priced a 24000 ml service at my local dealer today and was told it would be £444.00
Thinking that a bit expensive I began to phone around and a Land Rover dealer 40 mls. away priced same service at £270.00 and he will provide a courtesy car while mine is in.
I booked with him as a 40ml trip was worth the £174.00 I will save .
Anyone else with such a varation in prices quoted and why such a difference on same service??

My warranty expires at the end of Jan and I'm keen to get the car fully sorted before then.

It's to 40,000 miles now, but I've had a number of the problems that you encountered:

Rattly seats - were fixed by dealer (there is a LR mod for this and also some info on: http://www.disco2.com/howto/article.php?id=1)

Air con/heater - I've been back to the dealer about 5 times with this and had the outside sensor and sunlight sensor changed, the air-con topped up, much of the dash removed to check the vents and controls....all to no avail. As well as the high external temperature, the heater/air-con seems to struggle if the outside temp and temp inside the car are similar. The dealer logged a fault with LR in the end but don't expect much joy due to the new D3.

Auto gearbox lights - same problem but never is recorded in error log

I also have problems with the ACE light coming on every so oftern (amber) - this then goes away by turning off and on again.

The most worrying 'fault' is a judder when the auto-box changes - this is intermittent and never happens at the dealers. The potential cost of autobox repairs is making me consider extended warranty from LR, but I think this is around £1000. Money well spent if the auto box goes, but the cost of a big holiday if all is well......for a car 3 years old I shouldn't really be in this position

What was the service like at the ford dealer? I had a focus before the scenic. The service was appalling (dixons). It was a bad car anyway and had lots of faults from new but the sevice was even worse. Twice they had the car for a day and didn't have time to touch it. Some of the warranty work was never sorted when I sold the car after 3 years/ 20k miles. I asked for a factory fitted alarm £400 and two years later when it went wrong found out they'd fitted a cheap alarm they refused to fix it under warranty. Ended up with a solicitors letter before they offered my money back. The service at the local land rover dealer is superb, but like you say, how do they justify the prices.

I've thought a lot about an independant but I reckon I'll wait till the warranty's out especially at the moment till the warranty works sorted.
Cheers, I'll have a look at the seats if they don't sort them.

I'll have a call round the regional dealers today and see if it's the area that makes a difference or just the local dealer. Cheers.

Doesn't look good on the autobox and air con then. I'll let you know if they do find a cure.

Same here with the thinking on the exteneded warranty

Took the car in for the service yesterday.

Warranty work:
Turbo oil leak- full flow oil filter leaking onto turbo: replaced with new (normally replaced at 72k)
Gearbox safe mode, immobiliser, reverse sensors, folding mirrors, fuel guage, temp guage- body computer program corrupt: Latest version installed
Rearmost seats rattle: eccentric shims fitted

Dealer called and asked if I wanted new brake pads fitting front and rear. £130 a set.   The inspection report says the front are 70% worn and the rear 60%. Reckon I'll get some genuine pads fitted by the local garage in a few months.

Checked out the work when I got home and found the air filter was still very dirty (I knew it was as I have been thinking about fitting a k&n). :( Concerned I checked on the maintenance schedule and found it is only looked at and changed every 36k. With all the emmissions concerns at the moment I'm disappointed that it's not every 12k.

Out of interest, on the MOT computerisation course last week, spoke to a "Technician" from the LR dealer near to us, they charge £80 ph for Discovery, £100 ph for RR. Makes our £34 ph look a bit too cheap.

I took the disco to an ex-collegues at the weekend to have the pads fitted. The dealer parts dept quoted £125 for the pads. Picked up a set of genuine pads from Paddocks who had them on offer for £30. :)

I was shocked and appalled to see that 2000 miles after the dealer had said they needed replacing, the front were only 50% worn and the rear 40% worn (we measured them). :(

Picked up a K&N air filter whilst I was there as the old one was filthy (not a service item till 36k). Engine feels more flexible and sounds well. Well worth the £25. :)

Late comer to this thread Shrek, but I had the Auto in safe mode problem on my X reg. It was intermittent at first, but went hard eventually. It took my suppliers 'expert electrical man' quite a long time to fix it, because they thought it was going to be a doddle. It turned out to be an earthing fault to a whole gaggle of signals relating to the gearbox selector and mode switches. I think the terminal where the fracture happened was on top of the gearbox and therefore directly under the centre console.

Roger.

So far so good following the service and non of the faults have come back. If the gearbox problem returns I'll have them check terminals out.

Did you find any variation in prices with local dealers? Mines due for service end of Jan so was wondering if its worth giving all the localish dealers a ring or are they all going to be the same.

I also have the reversing sensor and folding mirror probs so will get them to check the programming.

There wasn't a lot in the dealers prices when I took distance into account so I ended up going back to my local as they're spot on with getting an auto courtesy car for me.

I did call a local non franchised specialist to price the brake pads last week. Whilst on the phone they quoted £295 for a 24k service and would have fitted the pads at cost (£80). They told me they'd had no problems and regular contact with the dealer over warranties. Reckon next time I'll take it to them.

BTW had no problem since with the reverse sensors and mirrors.
