We've just bought a 1993 200tdi Disco. The only problem we have found so far is difficulty in selecting 1st and 2nd gear. We have been told that it is probably the bias spring that has gone. Can anyone tell me how to replace it, I presume it can be done by removing the center console. Any pics would also be useful, we found a lovely expanded diagram on the internet last night, but can't find it again today!
Cheers

There's some information over at DiffLock.com (http://forum.difflock.com/cgi-bin/discus/discus.cgi?pg=next&topic=5&page=32447) but you have to register to access the bias spring section.

Yes it is easy, go through the centre console there is then a rubber seal, remove that and you are there. On top of the box is the spring and the reverse gate. Try to understand it before you undo anything, once you realise what you are trying to do it is easy, if not a bit fiddly. Quite often the spring is not broken just badly adjusted. I would suggest trying it a couple of times up and down the road before putting it all back together.

Cheers for that. Read a post about adjusting the spring yesterday, so we are going to take it apart ar the weekend and see what's what before we start buying parts. It's not too bad to drive once you get used to it, 1st and 2nd are straight up and down, then to the right and wiggle a bit for 3rd and down and wiggle for 4th, no problem with 5th. The worst thing is changing down from 4th to 3rd, lots of grinding untill you find the right place. It's also a bit difficult to get out of 4th.
Thanks again for your help.
