To cut a long story short.. I used to live on the other side of the pond and LOVED my disco II. Many adventures in that thing and loved it to death until I returned from deciding to marry and move here and found my family had given it to a dealership!!!

I'm just starting a career on this side of the pond with no new income yet, but I'm desperate to replace my disco II with a well used disco I as I only have a budget of up to £3k.

As I start looking for a disco I, I do want the 200tdi and 5 doors. Outside of that, I wanted to see what you thought the current market was, and if I could get a decent 200tdi disco that would atleast have a working engine and tranny.. Also, I wanted to know what to look out for and what to avoid. I'll probably look most in autotrader (and already started), but the sale of a nice SIII needs to happen before I commit to the Disco I.

After I get an income again, I'll be looking to upgrade the disco to allow for some greenlaning- but I need her to run reliably on road until that happens..

Although the disco II w/ V8 was wonderful, I actually like the Disco I better because of its size, and less overhang on the rear- and the fuel consumption! Yank discos are mostly automatic, and over here they seem to be 99% manual. Although I like manual trannys, I'm wondering which is preferable in your opinion.

Please be kind- I'm a newbie to the disco I. Any advice it greatly appreciated, and I'm a good listener!

I was going to say have a look on e.bay. It's always worth going for a look if there is anything near you. Also they are selling fairly cheaply at the moment.
