Hi everyone,

I have a 1994 Land Rover ES Discovery TDI Auto, which has recently had the head gasket go. Unfortunately, this has caused damage to the pistons and possibly the head and I need to identify what type of engine it is, so that I can replace it! I have been told that it is a 300 TDI engine but I'm not too sure. The engine number is: 20L00397A, chassis number: SALLJGMF3MA085208. Can anyone help me please?

Well it is a 2.5 TDI which sounds right, and because its a 1995 MY it should be a 300Tdi as you said!! I think?!

As i remember....200tdi engine numbers start 11L, and 300tdi number start at 16L,
So i would assume 20L is a 300tdi.

Thanks very much guys...is there any visible differences? - Nice and simple...I'm no mechanic!! Cheers!!! :p

Mine is automatic, do I need to get an automatic replacement or does it not matter?

erm, well if it's factory fitted it will just have a cover on it saying common rail or something, it will be black. A 200tdi will just be the head i think!! Might get more info from some one else. But thats all the work i can think of!!
