View Full Version : VM 2.5l diesel engine any good?
I'm interested to hear what your experiences are with this engine. Apparently it's an Italian made boat engine that has 4 separate cylinder heads, and that was fitted in the RR before they started with the 200Tdi. Is it reliable? Powerful? Can you still get spares for it?

I had in a past life one of these things.
Powerful? A bit better than an old Mercedes diesel.
Reliable? About as trustworthy as a Series II indicator switch.
Why: The cylinder towards the bulkhead has an overheatiung problem, so this is where your trouble starts.

Forgot to say this was in a One Ten.
These ****ty VMs were in many continental 90s and 110s, ask around how many have replaced them.
Get an LPG conversion if this is about saving on fuel.

If you want a decent clanker(if such a thing really exists), then forget about anything that was deliberately fitted at Solihull, they're all crap when compared to an IVECO.
Thanks for the replies. Interesting to see that people are quite divided on the issue, but overheating seems to be the main theme. As regards Iveco diesels: I once had a pulley of the timing belt coming of all by itself. Guess what happened next. Ever since I'm not a great fan of them.
