OK diehards - IF you had to do lots of road mileage across Europe (some on gravel roads), occasionally tow (small) boats for short distances, had no kids but a girlfriend and a bit of outdoor/sailing/sports kit, had very LITTLE need or opportunity to go seriously off-road, and were primarily interested in reasonably trouble-free, low cost motoring

but STILL wanted a LR vehicle, (or is this incompatible with previous sentence... :-0 )

WOULD YOU BUY A FREELANDER????

Yes or no, please provide (rational) reasons.

Tow the dive club boat Ok
27mpg
reasonable service costs.
Lots of toys as standard.
Hairdressers don't buy 'em.

Discos can be as economic as Freelanders but are usually more reliable. They are easy to handle with a trailer and you can get a 200 Tdi for £3000 these days. Most spares from Defenders fit for engine and drivetrain and you can easily repair them yourself. Even in the south of spain or Belarus.
Freelanders are too small for all your gear.

I don't have a problem with the Freeloaders. They're a bit small though. Are they any more reliable than any other Land Rover? Are Land Rovers really that bad? I know everyone has breakdowns and repair bills, but how many of us own vehicles less than 10 years old?

Our young Freelander correspondant gets so many trouble reports, more than in any other section of the club. I'm glad I don't have to deal with these. We (the Series squad) usually get the simple ones like 'how do I fit a new engine'
Well, Stephen you're right. How many of us have REALLY got a new, ten year old LR?
