 I am getting the bug. No, actually ive got the bug. I bought a 300tdi es disco six months ago with 56k and certainly now wouldnt want to drive anything else. My wifes just got a brand new corsa which is a quiet, decent car, but ive always got a huge smile when I climb back into the landy. My question is how can I find a local non franchised garage that will do a good reliable service and keep my landy ticking along nicely? I live sw london/surrey borders and wondered if any of you could recommend anyone (other than myself as my mechanical skills need some more practice). I am new to this site and would be grateful to hear any suggestions.
Cheers.

So you wanna practise and learn ?
Suggestion 1...Buy a Haynes manual and read, you might be suprised at to just how much you can do even if you lack experience...
Suggestion 2 ...Join a local club., if the members cant help you they'll recommend someone who can.
Suggestion 3....Buy and/or subscribe to a good mag (not the girlie type) ;)
Suggestion 4......come back 'ere if you do encounter any probs,
someone from somewhere will help :)
I'm sure someone else will suggest something else, so 'ang around ;)

Thanks. very sound advice (esp the girly mags bit when the missus is around...)
I'm on the case. A good club is a must - know any? I have started to get LRO magazine - it seems pretty good - do you have a preference (not of the top shelf variety)?
Two girls eat up time but Im keen to learn so ill take your advice - im sure youll see a post from me when Im stuck soon...
cheers.

My favourite mag is LRO,(Land Rover Owner International) but Land Rover Enthusiast runs a close second :)
As for recommending a club, i'm a relative newbie and still learning lots myself, i'm sure one of older members will have a good suggestion for you......
Have fun :D

Old Fart , you're contradicting yourself:
If I write for LRE, am I writing for a Girlie Mag? Girls like Julie (Sept.) can only improve LRE.
BTW we'll have a women's corner in our new mag. Not that we are starting the 5th UK mag, this will be in French.
I'll persomally provide a translation for your missus:)
Now seriously: On our club website there are a lot of Disco maintenance descriptions for free.
Look here
http://www.landroverclub.net/Club/HTML/Maintechnic.htm
and here. (this is not my work, but Alain's, who will also answer complicated Disco questions

Annette :)
/serious face mode
My most humble apologies for "seemingly" inferring about the womanly participation in any Landy mag....but i actualy ment the playboy type of girlie mag..... yer know the ones that in my childhood got tucked under the mattress ;)
Your.... and any womans technical input is in my mind very much appreciated in what is to me a new extension to my driving career....ie owning, driving and maintaining a Landy :)
Yeh i know i take the pith outa my Missus sometimes, but she knows its all in jest and whilst my jokes may seem somewhat anti female i'm actualy very supportive and full of encouragement for those ladies who posess the confidence to get involved and learn about the nitty grity :D
Oh dear that now sounds patronising :(
Glennp.....yer know yer hooked when yer sneak off to the loo to read yer Haynes book, or the latest issue of LRO....Instead of Playboy :D
Annette.....I think a ladies section in any Landy mag is an excellant idea, and i look forward to reading the contributions :)
/phew.....looks at Missus ...Will that get me orf the hook :D
