View Full Version : Leaking Auto Box

I have a '93 TDi Auto that has recently developed a leak in the rear seal where attached to the transfer case. The local dealers are mistified as they have had a couple of goes at fixing it including replacing the seal with no joy. Interestingly it coincides with the transmission dipstick being continuously blown out of its seat (which must take some pressure as it is a tight fit!). They assure me that they have checked the breather and lines to and from the cooler and all is OK - but appears to me that it is building up pressure somewhere and forcing oil out through rear seal?

Anyone had any experience with?

Sounds like there is preasure in the oil system. The question is how is it getting there? How many miles has the engine done? It could be a worn piston ring, or valve guide mabey.

Motor has done almost 100,000km (approx 60,000 miles) and going fine - wouldn't expect engine pressure to affect gear box oil system?
