Picked up my first disco today. (Oct 1994) 2.5TDi Auto, for the record she has 100,000 miles under her belt. If you really must know I paid £5.500.
I have a couple of questions that I really need help on. If you have the time.
1) When I tried the lights tonight, the tail/rear lights appear to be on the bumper and not with on the cluster with the fog/reversing/stop lights. Is this correct
2) Having read the handbook I'm confused on which position the transfer box and Diff lock should be in for a) normal driving and
b) off road and c) ice & snow.
Please no comments about selling it and buying a car. lol.

Hi there. As far as I know, the upper light cluster has the brake lights. But you can take out the bulb to check if it's a twin element bulb.
As for the diff,
a) it should be in high range, diff UN-locked.
b) off road, low range most of the time (unless it's level ground), and the diff depends on the surface. If there's a chance of spinning the wheels and loosing grip, lock the diff. But remember to un-lock it as soon as you get onto solid ground or you'll break things.
c) hi or low, depending on how fast you want to go. If traction is a problem, lock the diff, but remember to un-lock it as soon as you get back onto tarmac.
Hope this helps.:)

I think I read that all the wiring is in place to make the side lights work too, and I've seen it done on several, there's one connection to make I think. Someone will know. The reason that the lights are in the bumper is supposedly that the upper right ones are hidden when the rear door is open and it would look like a motor bike was parked. (fair suprise for anyone who didn't notice then)

Hi Paul
Mine's the same year as your's and up until a few weeks ago I only had rear lights in the bumper.
I noticed that a brake light had gone and due to the complete pig of a job trying to replace the lamp in-situ I removed the complete cluster to get to the lamp.
The lamp was a dual filament type so I made a few snips to the tracks on the back of the cluster and looped a supply off the bumper tail lights to the body cluster lights.
I now have four rear tail lights with the body lights incorporating the brake lights.
Next project is to fit a work lamp/reversing lamp and rewire the standard reverse lights to the indicators and fit yellow lamps. Maybe, one day, at some point!

Hey mark do you think it could be something to do with it being a land rover. No seriously it seems silly as they brought them back later on and have done the same now with the series 2. Ours is not to reason why
