Hiya Stephen...twice today you've made me laugh out loud...
Anyway I saw the above post today and it looks interesting, might go cos Ive got tons of holidays to take this year. Are you going to Gleddoch RTV on the 26th with the s.w.a.t. club?
you not got a job yet?
Spacemutt
21st Jan 2003, 07:38
We try to please. :D
Didn't know there was an RTV on. Gleddoch is up behind Langbank isn't it? Might go along and have a look.
The May event sounds promising, as it's not a huge hike down.
Still no job. :(
Geez a job.

Lol a quote on the "other" forum by Stephen
Think how I feal. When was the last time you heard of a decent size event in Scotland?
ROLMAO......but so true :hahaha:
If i'm firmly based up north by then i'll meet up with you Stephen, we could even organise our own BBQ and make it a freebie :shhhh:
Yer might even get J9 & K9 down to that one :yay:

Well if I can convince my new boss it is worth going, that would be THE opportunity to meet all our friends in yourkshire and pick up lots off spares there. Steve Walker just told me about a BIG event coming soon and if I could bring lotsa whisky from France that would be even better.
So what is going on there?
Spacemutt
21st Jan 2003, 13:37
Not sure. All I know if what's posted on LRO, but apparently there'll be a bit about it in the next magazine. I don't think it's as big as the September event.
Janine
21st Jan 2003, 23:56
I think that sounds feasable......K9 not too sure yet.Must check hols at work.Anyone know if they are going to Peterborough in september yet? That is a definate for us!I want to see millions of landies in one place, for real.:yay:
BBQ sounds like a good idea,Old Fart,Stephen......want some help?:p

Janine if u offer to help you end up doing the lot :nonono: My motto... volunteer for nothing, anyway it's the only time you ever get men to cook
(I use the term loosely) always use paper plates... then spend the whole evening with your feet up and copious amounts of vino.

Janine
22nd Jan 2003, 07:54
LOL:hahaha:
Sorry if there is any misunderstanding....I'm not volunteering myself....It's K9 I'm proposing to offer.Especially with all that Halal butchery going on,or not, depends how far you read on LRO.
You coming then Maggie? We can sit with the vino colapso and watch the experts do it.The men in my family are always "expert" barbie cooks.
LOL!!!!!LOL!!!!!:yay: :yay: :p

Hello Janine and all others on this thread, :bigwave:
I caught your comment on the other thread about the Yorkshire do, so I've come down to have a look. Seeing as I haven't been to ANYTHING like this yet, it sounds an opportunity too good to miss!! :p
I don't know if I'd go and get the Disco dirty, but it would be fun just to me you all you regulars there. Mind you, after all I've read about you lot on here, I'm not so sure........ :beers:
The date is in the diary now!! I am also well qualified at eating burgers...... :mcdonalds:

Hi,
I'll be making my first trip to the Yorkshire show, this time around. I went to the last show and had a great time. I have been into the Land Rover scene a couple of years, but never mingled with fellow enthusiasts. This event with trade stands, entertaininment (and of course loads of landies) is a brilliant place to meet people into the scene.
Hope to see you there!
Janine

It will be a great week-end away.:p

Otherwise see you on the Yorkshire Event.Or here!!:yay:

If it is the same one as I am thinking of it's a Military Vehicle/4x4 type thingy. I was going to go down and have shufti as it is reasonably local to me (wasn't going in the Lt/Wt though it was gonna be the sandbags car) but plans have changed and I ain't going down now.
I presume this is the one as it is at Garstang and I don't suppose there are two things on in the same place, at the same time.......are they?

The onlt problem is that particular weekend the Lancaster will be doing flypasts at Derwent Valley near Sheffield to commemorate the 60th Anniversary of the Dambusters. One of the few sounds that I prefer to a V8 is the sound of 4 Merlin engines at low level on boost after flying over the dam and climbing out of the valley. Heard it 10 years ago and hpefully I will hear it this time too.
(Might make the show as well though!)

Can someone phone the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight and get them to fly past us at Bramham?
I was privvy to what was almost a private flypast at the Museum of Flight at East Fortune a few years ago.Last year as we were driving towards Newark one July week-end,the City of Lincoln was giving us another breath-taking view at close quarters.I'm with you on the Merlins,Alan.
There was a RR aero engine at Garstang, not a Merlin,I'm pretty sure of that, unless it was vastly modified.....
Someone will put me right I'm sure.....
:p
Right then. How many sausages will I need to bring for the barbie?:beers: :chef: :chef:
You can't beat the sound of Merlins on a sunny afternoon - which is partly why I moved homes anti-clockwise around the BBMF base circuit from 11 o'clock to 7 o'clock giving me a grandstand from my attic office window. They were flying today and the sun was out. Magic.

Did anyone see the Dambusters re-enactment on TV? Anyone know why they had to go all the way out to Canada to fly in a Lancaster? What was wrong with the BBMF one?

I also saw the fly past, went straight over our flat, twice, made all the windows vibrate as it went over. The first fly over, I think one of the spitfires was in the wrong place, so they turned around, and came back over, unluckily, the got it right second time...
An amazing aircraft. :yay:

The BBMF Lancaster was completely refitted a couple of years ago including wing spars. They are trying to keep an annual limit on flying hours to keep the old girl flying as long as possible. A further refit is deemed unlikely due to cost. (perhaps if it was operated by ethnic one legged single parent druggies the lottery would fund it).
The only other flying Lancaster in the world is in Canada.
The Duxford one is not flyable (not sure if engines are fitted) and the Farmers one has 4 working Merlins but will only taxi.
A few years ago the Lanc was at Elvington next to the Halifax (Friday the 13th) and B17 Sally B.
12 engines running at the same time was awesome.

Well fiddle de dee, there won't be a flypast at Derwent after all. I went there today (oops yesterday, it's after midnight) and the flypasts aren't going to happen. On the way home saw the Lancaster and Spitfire on the way to Chesterfield at low level. Superb sight and sound.
So it looks like I will get to the show on Saturday. I will be instantly recognisable as the good looking guy driving the quick Lightweight shed with yellow wheels.
All eligible top totty form an orderly queue at the back door......I promise to be gentle if you are!

We have just got back from Bramham. It was absolutely FANTASTIC!
We met the Doctored Titles Club from the LRO forum. They are as nutty as we are!Great folks.
We had a wonderful time at the show,I would do it all again tomorrow.
I was off-roading with the best of them(or worst of them). There were squillions of landys.Every model from series 1 onwards. The G4 tangerines were very impressive. We bought stuff at the auto-jumble.
We just had the bestest time ever!!! :nellie: :blusher: :cheering: :cheering: :bigParty:

Glad you had a great time Janie.... hope you didn't put any dents in the disco.
I see that the Jet garage has a Silver disco in at the moment, haven't had chance to have a close look yet, only saw it today.
I hope to get to some of the shows this year, shame I missed that one by the sounds of it, but was busy fixing an S2, which is now back on the road and hopefully ready to pass it's MOT in June.
:yay:

Not a single scrape,not a dent,nothing!
It was a great shame you couldn't come along.Fixing a series 2 is a good reason though. For the greater good so to speak.
Seriously, mate if you pass the jet forcourt you are 2 minutes away from my hoose. On the old A1 ours is the one with all the landies!!!!!!:p :p
