I've got 35000 on the Slanter now (put 31000 on in 9 months) any high milers out there up for comparison? How do you compare MPG? Have you got LPG? etc.

Hi Alan,
the Freelanders wor lasses, and she luvs it, I went on the billing off road course in it, and got dragged out by a defender and had to empty the back from water, and the back footwells, and she never seen the funny side of it.
But apart from that its the biz and a really nice motor to drive.
p.s. she has only 15000 miles on it,
I used to be a high miler but not in LAND ROVERS.
what do you use yours for.

Daily driver as a Commissioning Engineer. I go all over the country with the motor well loaded with tools/test gear at weekend (summertime) it gets used as a towcar for the dive club boat. I converted to lpg and really get the benefit cost wise. 21mpg on gas/27mpg petrol. Which motor are you running in the floda?

Iam drivin a defender black 110 double cab, and have just worked out that iam gettin 19 mile to the gall, this cannot be right . 230 miles and it cost 40.00.
I used to go to manchester, yorkshire, hull, carlisle, on a daily basis, and iam from newcastle, dont do it no more sick of pressure.
I got a price on gettin the freelander done to lpg but the lad had never done a land rover before and was chargin 1k to do it, did not trust him so i never bothered,

It cost 2.4k to do the Slanter, but £600 grant back and £ equivalent of over 40mpg means that an average of 1000 miles or so a week is well worth while. If you do a lot of mileage, it has got to be worth it. It has to be done properly though or the insurance co. won't like it. The down side is that the tank is where the spare was, so I don't carry a spare now. I need a spare carrier that bolts onto the towbar but it looks like I shall have to design and make one meself.

Now done 54000 - had the car 14 months. Problems so far:
Bolts sheared on PS pump (replaced free)
Crankshaft sensor failed immediately after 50k service! (replaced free)
Replaced.
New front tyres at 52000 miles cost £48 each. (rears good for another 20k ish)
Front brake pads £70!!!!!
Fuel consumption 21 on gas, 27 on petrol. Normally running with the boot area full of tools/test gear etc.
How does this compare against the Freelander high milers then?
I am genuinely interested here - not a P*** take.

87k on the engine (2.0 TDi, 1998 model). Returns 33-35mpg with ease, almost certainly better if I could bring myself to take my foot off the gas :)
