any general advice please lads (and as important, what MPG can I expect (average), with non leaded foot ?
Prices seem all over the place ! £3500 for a 95 M reg 90000 miles in 'tidy' condition - seem about right ?

I get around 320 miles to a tank of diesel out of mine, mostly driving around town, costs around £47 to fill up. What this works out mpg wise I couldn't tell you, but you might like to work out how much every mile costs you!!!! Think its something like 6.8p.

What about gas engines? What MPG should be normal or better yet, when new, what was the windows sticker MPG advertised at?

What size tank have you got in your Disco Katie? Mine will soak up 75 litres; warning light to overflowing and that's about 68 squid in London. If I get a few long runs in a week, plus all the usual crawling around in London, I often get 400 miles on the aforementioned tankful. That's about 24 mpg, but it's an automatic. My old Astra 1.8 cost 16p/mile over about a year.

Sorry jen, but your maths is ar*e about face, you divide the money by the miles done; £47 divided by 320 = 14.7p per mile, that would be about 28.5mpg

I have both a 200 & 300. I get about 30 mpg going to and from work (into and out of Manchester) As for the 200 I have kitted it out for offroading and have no idea what mpg I get, I find the 200 has better grunt in the lower revs but to 300 is great at long runs.
Sorry this is not much help.:(

Still wrong methink Rob. Unless you guys 'up country' are getting diesel at French or Belgian rates (1.00 Euro/litre) then a tankfull for a Disco must top off at about seventy quid. We're seeing it at 88.9p/litre just now so that's just south of £67. Jen's 320 miles should work out at just under 20 mpg if she filled the tank right up.
Does everybody have to shake their Disco to get the last 10 litres in?
Roger.
it cost's me 70 pound's more or less to fill mine and i can get 420 to the tank as long as i keep to 55-60 mph on long runs and around 320 to the tank towing a t/axle caravan:)

I've a 300tdi auto when standard used to get 27MPG and 500 miles to a tank which was about 85 liters as used to almost run it dry. now with MT's and a large heavy safty devices roof rack i get about 430 miles to a tank

I'm confused: I get about 500-520 miles per tank (about £80 at current rates) just driving normally (usually max speed of 70-75). Where does Jen get a full tank for £47? This could save me a fortune!

My Disco went yesterday[300tdi]......I have never missed a car as much, can't stop looking on ebay and tempting myself with the money...
Mpg was brilliant as long as you kept to 60-65, towing a big van at that speed returned 30+ish without the van it would do 35 easy, however over 75 was horrendous, well down in the 20s and towing at 70+ could see it down into the top teens....I am begining to really regret selling it:( :(

Mungo, I've got to ask; Just where is Rolleston on Dove? It's a smashin' name, does the place live up to it?

Run a td5.. but had previous 300tdi from 16k to 60k, never achieved 30mpg..with a mix of fairly gentle driving and town work I could get close, but I do a lot of motorway miles and as previous post said after 70 it really drops.. so a mix of town and 70 - 80 motorway runs allow for 24-25. Interestingly when I tow a large horse trailer with two big guys on board..total weight44cwt I easily see 25...but I drive sooo smoothly..its all about keeping your right foot off the loud pedal.
cheers

Its not bad...there are a lot of worse places to live.
If you want a look round our village, google Rolleston on Dove [Staffs]. There is a village web site with a photo section.............Alternatively pop in for a coffee and I will show you round, you can even drive my Landy through the village ford.
Yes folks, that's the very ford where callisr played pooh sticks with his Land Rover :D

I'm running a 300TDI Disco and can get about 600 miles to a tank full. The warning light is well on though! On a recent trip from Notts to Norfolk, on(fairly flat) A roads mostly, the old gal did 35.8 MPG pretty impressive I'd say. This was measured from brimmed to brimmed. If I keep the speed down on motorways and don't let the revs go over 2500 (67mph) it will do about 33MPG. Go over these figures and it drops to mid/high twenties.

I routinely return 32mpg from my 300Tdi manual on mixed runs, even including significant mileage on forestry roads and some low gear grunts and some 70 mph cruising on m'ways. Great rigs the old disco, till the MOT tester applies his nailbar to the underbody.....Keith

That's a very nice offer Mungo, if ever I get in to that part of the world. I'll check out that website when next I'm at the lappie.
As for mileage, I checked on the last few tanks full and I'm getting just north of 25 mpg on a mix of 75 mph motorway and 6 mph town.

When I say a full tank, I usually don't let her go under 1/4 full, so really I'm only putting 3/4 of a tank in when I fill up!!! If hubby drives and there is under 1/4 of a tank of fuel then I get moaned at!!!! I don't usually overfill either as there is a sticker by the fuel filler telling me not to ( I always do what I'm told.....not). I have wondered if my fuel guage could be a bit out, I got down to quater of a tank one day and had lots of running around in an area where it is just about impossible to find fuel. By the time I did manage to stop to refuel I had done 70 miles and the needle hadn't even moved.
