Has anyone seen this done?
Is this legal?
I've been thinking that a nice blue would be a better colour on my eyes at night than the normal green.
Any leads would be greatly appreciated!
Cheers,
J

just take the surrond off and change the bulbs, there are two little bulbs in the top of the panel, normally with a green plastic sleeve that the bulbs sits in to give it colour.

just change to blue, and i can see no reason why it would be ilegal. red may be nice.

Red is a good colour, as it doesn't affect night vision, which is why it is used at night in cabins on ships for the watch about to go on duty.

My golf has Blue instrument lights, and red "night" lights in the cabin. Both work well.

You can get kits on E-bay for this.

I, personally, don't have any, you could go to the closest library and see if they have a Haynes Manual for Discos? Or, failing that, go to your local Halfords and crack the one on their shelf open and take a look.

Rules on bulbs usually apply to what other vehicles can see, not interior. That is why you have to have red reflectors+stop+tail+fog at rear (cars that look clear at rear are either illegal or have small red lenses for these. You can just about get away with clear rear indicators. You may just be able to replace the sleeves on the bulbs, see http://www.dashlights.co.uk/cart.php?target=category&category_id=272. unfortunatly there can be coloured plastics built into instruments that may mess this up.

I bought some od e-bay at a very inflated price, blue led's but are too dim, think there may be green plastic in the internals that will filter out blue light and of course the time clock had a different fitting, which I did locate from an online shop, but is 5x brighter than the other bulbs even with a bit of insulation tape on the end of it and the led's were a bit too long from ebay so dont lok in that well. One thing to remember with led's is they only work one way, so if they dont light up when you fit them, turn them round 180 degrees and they will.
