hi
my first visit to the disco section so hi to every one first

anyway the wife wants a new car and she wants a disco :rolleyes: so we are going to look at a 1997 R Reg DISCOVERY 2.5 TDI 5 door 7 seater on saturday .
so what should i look for and -
when should the timing belt be changed
how many miles betwen a service
what should i look for in the engine bay
and any funny noises from the gearbox
all help would be greatfull
looking forward to getting another landrover on the drive ;)

Here's my starter for ten....

Timing belt every 60K. Transfer box will probably have a bit of a whine at that age. No too much to worry about unless the noise is intrusive. Check under the rear carpet for rust as the water leaks in and soaks into the mat. 6k between services. Make sure they've ben done regularly as the 300 Tdi will last forever with proper servicing. Don't worry if the auxilary drive belt squeels when cold, most do. Check ALL the electrics as they can be expensive to repair.
