Hi all
Got a problem on Disco 2 TD5 '99 - in some parking places pushing key buttons is useless due to interference (key battery fine). The car has to be towed for 500 m, were it starts with no problem. I have code for manual alarm disabling thru driver's doorlock, but got no owners handbook. Please advise on the right sequence to do this.
Thanks in advance,
Dimka

If it is the same as the Rover car, you need to turn the key Z times to the front, Y times to the rear, X times to the front, and the W times to the rear. You return the key to the central position each time you move it. Oh and the car should be unlocked once you have done, so if it locks at the end change the sequence to Z to rear...:)
Z,Y,X,W been the four digit code you have.

It is a fiddle and takes some practice, so not good for a quick get away, and one thing, it has a short time limit from entering the code to the immobliser comes back on again.

Thanx, but it's not that easy. I know it begins with 1-turn to the front & hold till you hear a beep , then start the sequence.... And at the end smth must be done and two beeps should sound (i think)

If you speak to the local? dealer, there is a fix to extend the aerial. So the remote signal is received better.

Why dont you try locking/unlocking just using the key in the drivers door ? On UK models the only difference when locking using the key is that the doors are not superlocked.(interior door handles disabled)Depending on the way your car is set up you may be able to superlock it by turning the key to the locked position twice in one second.Disco 2 is not usually prone to Rf interference from mobile phone masts etc,it was 2nd generation R Rovers,95-02 that were - these could be fitted with a modified Rf receiver. What does seem to happen is that disco 2's just fail to recognise the fob,in your handbook it suggests that if this happens you can try unlocking the drivers door with the key, then press the unlock button again. This sometimes happens to these cars if they are left overnight at my yard. There is no Rf activity there - its right out in the sticks, but the damn things dont want to unlock in the morning. If there are places where you know you will have problems,I reckon using the key is probably the easiest option.

Due to terrorist danger strong radio interference is being produced near airports in Moscow - supposed to lower radio bomb threats.
This cannot be remedied by exetending aerials, or simple button pushing. Please, I know what I need and am asking for that only. Can anyone check the handbook on D2 from '99 on?

The problem also concerns the immobiliser that turns on automatically some time after ignition is turned off. It really is impossible to start the car!!!!

Dimka,

I have this problem all the time, but only in my parking spot under our units. I suspect it's caused by WiFi networks; there's loads of them in our units and everyone has them at 100%. Anyway...

Yes, you have a 4 number code. As you say, put the key in, turn and hold forward until you get one beep. Bring it back to vertical and go forward the first number of times, back the second, forward the third, back the fourth, returning to vertical each time as Lighting90 said. Then go forward and hold again; if you've got it right it'll beep twice, otherwise it'll beep once (in which case start the counting thing again). After the two beeps, open the door and start the engine immediately so that the immobiliser doesn't kick in (think you may have 30 secs).

Sometimes it gets confused and starts flashing the indicators in time to your key action. In this case, just open the door and start it.

My neighbour has the same problem on her old aftermarket alarm, but another guy has never suffered from it with his beemer. Shame BMW didn't think to incorporate their better alarms whilst they owned the company....

Be interested in more info about the improved arial..? Although I've tried using the key very close to the car all around it (but I understand the arial to be in the dash infront of the (RHD) steering wheel....?)

YEEEes! !!
John, thank You, this was just what I was looking for!!! BTW, I've heard that the arial might be somewere near the roof, close to rearview mirror. At least when the key battery is almost dead, bringing it close there helps.
Thanks also to everyone for their advice :)

Saved me typing all that out !! The rf receiver is indeed inside the headling, back from the mirror,to the left of the sunroof motor.I confess I have never removed one but on rave the unit does'nt appear to have an external antenna, but if it did making it longer would only make things worse,it would receive even more interference.A friend whois an RAC patrol says his mate putsthe fob in a loo roll covered in tinfoil then holds it against the window antenna on Lp RR's,then presses the button. You could still lock the car using the key in the door though, then when you unlock it with the key you should be ok because the BCU wont look for an rf signal. This must be quicker than using eka,esp in areas where you know there is a problem.
Merry Christmas !!!!!!!!!!!

One other source of interference comes from mobile phone ariels these are well known to disrupt the alarms on range rovers and might be the cause of your problems.
