Am looking to replace my current heater in my Hybrid and locate it in a different position and need to sounce something that can fit in a fairly small space. I initially thought of the Series I (and II?) Smiths round heater - nice and compact, but on further investigation it looks like they are pretty hard to come by and brand new (?) ones cost over £300.

Does anyone have any ideas on what I could use instead?

I also looked at the Lightweight heater, but this is a tad large as well.

this is a crazy plan, but try getting the rectangular one from an MGB, that would fit comfortably i reckon

Heater from a Mini? It's all one unit, switchs, sliders and all.

Yep, that's a possibility. There's a couple of ebay, so I've asked for a size.

thanks

If space under the dash is a problem have you thought about mounting a heater matrix in the rear tub behind the seats... I think artic spec Series 3 109s were like that. I might be wrong.

The space available in the 80 comes at a bit of a premium, so the back isn't really an option. Moved the battery from the rear tub up front betwen the seats to save on a bit of space! There's a perfect space, just right for a Smith round heater right next to my foot, so that's where I'd like it to go. May be enough space for a MINI heater - we'll have to see.

If I didn't have a roll cage, then the Lightweight heater might have fitted behind the bulkhead quite neatly. Maybe I'll have another look at the weekend - perhaps there is a way!

check out this thread regarding the mini heater

page 2 has got pictures of my installation (although this was as an additional heater it could easily be used as the main one)

Cheeky! No, I'm planning to lower my seats - been meaning to doing it for years and never got round to it. Geoff's pix of his hybrd gave me the incentive. My heater is under the drivers seat, hence the relocation problem!

Thanks or the MINI thread. Very useful.

Bob86, how much for the heater?

Cheers

Dont want anything for it. I was going to fit it in mine but have changed my mind.
